Could not empty sandbox

Post by Guest » Thu Nov 06, 2008 2:37 am

Hi,

When I tried to "delete contents" from the default box I got the following message.

Could not move the sandbox folder out of the way
System error code:
(5)

I logged off and back on but still got the same message. I was logged onto a limited user account in XP and nothing else was running.
This has never happened before. As I had no other way of clearing out the sandbox I just deleted the user account.

I was wondering what to do if this happens again. Also I was wondering if this may have been caused by some kind of malware or just a glitch.

Reboot, then "Delete Contents" from the default box.

Thanks for the help. If it happens again I will give that a try.

You might not need to re-boot

When this problem occurs "Could not move the sandbox folder out of the way
System error code:
(5)"
try opening either the same program again in the same sandbox or some other prog e.g. Notepad
and then close it "Delete Contents"

HI,

I've the same problem of the other user and I tried what you have suggested (please excuse my poor english) but I've had no results. In the Sandbox folder now there are some folders called "__Delete_DefaultBox_01C926EE.." and I can't delete them.

I uninstalled Sandboxie, cleaned with CCleaner, cleaned the registry, tried "Unlocker" and "WhoLockMe104", but nothing.

My PC account have Administrator privilege but I can't modify the properties of the folders (Read). What can I do?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

No I can't delete them in anyway.

This problem is started some time ago. At first after the creation of the first folder, sandboxie worked well for sometime, then it created another folder that I couldn't remove and then a third.

Now everytime I start Sandboxie, it create a folder that I can't remove. I can't remove them also after I uninstalled Sandboxie.

In the last folder I find some spyware, adware and other junk and after I removed them with SuperAntispyware and I reboot I couldn't enter in windows.

Fortunaly I could enter in safe mode and using a recent restore point and now all it seems to be returned normal except that evil, evil, evil folders in Sandbox. Arghh!!

Every suggestion is appreciate.

Thank you.

Are these folders the kind that are folders within folders within folders very deep? If so, go all the way in and try deleting up the folder tree.

Hi,

yes there're a lot of stuff in that folders. I've remove a part of these files with Eraser and CCleaner, but still there are a lot of files. I tried what you've suggested but everytime I have the message:" Access denied, the program is in use...."

Don't know what operating system you use, but start it in safe-mode and try it again.

And you should try to delete the folder(s) in a command shell with rmdir /S.

Occasionally people report this problem but so far I've never been able to figure it out. The sandbox folders are created with no access controls, which in effect gives access to everyone on the computer.

The only thing I can think about is perhaps some scanner or other security program sees this, thinks it's too lenient, and tweaks the access controls in a way that makes the folder inaccessible. Again that's just a very wild guess.

I would suggest this. Start a command prompt window:

Windows Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

A black window appears, type these lines, typing Enter after each one.

Code: Select all

c:
cd \
cacls sandbox /g everyone:f
Notes:

1. This is assuming your sandbox is located at C:\SANDBOX

2. After the last line you'll get a prompt asking you to confirm, so enter Y in response.

3. After typing these lines, try to delete the sandbox folders again.

4. If that doesn't work from your "normal user" account, then try from your Administrator account.

Ruhe: My operating system is WinXP Home SP2. I tried to enter in safe mode but however I can't delete this evil things.

tzuk: My account has Administrator privilege. I'll try what you have suggested.

Thank you guys and please have a little bit of patience with me 'cause I am not so experienced with PC.

Thank you.

I hope to come back with good news.

I don't know if you tried this yet. If Unlocker will not let you delete the files and folders, see if Unlocker will 'move' them at least. Create a 'new folder' on your desktop and move them to there. Then reboot and try to delete that new folder. :?

tzuk: I tried your suggestion but it doesn't worked.

MitchE323: I tried to unlock this....folders but I had no success. I'll try to move them. I'm mostly only worried for the spywares that there are in this folders.
