Sandboxie EULA

Post by Ruan » Wed Nov 19, 2014 8:15 pm

Hi,

Prompted by the announcement of a new EULA in Version 4.14, I decided to give it a quick glance over.

http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?EndU ... eAgreement
4.1.5 LICENSEE acknowledges and agrees that as part of its normal
operation the Software may collect certain data relating to (a) use of the
Software, (b) any viruses, malware, Trojan Horses, and other malicious or
harmful code discovered by the Software (collectively “Viruses”), (c) the
behavior or operation of such Viruses, and (d) the data that is affected by
the Viruses (collectively “Virus Data”). In the event LICENSEE has licensed
SBH’s Software to collect Virus Data, a copy of the Virus Data will be sent
by the Software to LICENSEE. If LICENSEE has not licensed SBH’s Software to
collect Virus Data, Virus Data will be sent by the Software to SBH. The
parties agree that they shall own all rights to the Virus Data jointly
without accounting.
The above paragraph is slightly confusing and seems more likely applicable to Freespace, rather than Sandboxie. I'm guessing that the EULA is maybe generic, and applies to all Invincea software.

Anyhow, just for the sake of clarity, would an Invincea rep be kind enough to let us know if Sandboxie, in its current form, collects and transmits any user data to Invincea, and if so, what data and how often?

Thank you,
Ruan.

I am not a lawyer and have nothing to do with writing the EULA. I can state, however, that there is no code in Sandboxie to upload any information regarding viruses. For that matter, Sbie doesn't even detect viruses. This is something that FreeSpace does. The only information Sbie ever transmits is the licensing and checking for latest version.
