Install VisualStudio2008 inside Sandboxie

Hi,
I read all the threads about visual studio being a to complicated program to run inside Sandboxie.
But I also saw some threads where VS2008 worked correctly.

At home, I have win7 and sandboxie 4.08. I installed VS2008 inside a new sandbox, moved the contents of the sandbox on a different partition and created a backup copy of the sandboxed folder (robocopy), to restore if needed. Everything works fine (compile, debug, editor, run ...).

I tried the same thing at school under winxp sp3 and sandboxie 4.12.
Here is the weird thing, the reason I'm writing this:

If i keep the sandboxed folder location default (on c), the installer works. But if I move it somewhere else (even with robocopy and changing the path in the configuration file and before installing anything), the installer fails (just at the start it says: extracting 41 files from 41 and does that endlessly).
To overcome that, I install on the original partition and after that copy the folder where I want. VS2008 almost works (IDE, debug run...) but I cannot access the properties of the project (crash).
Why is it working under win 7 and not win xp?
And the interesting question: why does the installer work when the sandboxed folder is on C and it doesn't work on D? How does VS get information about what happens outside of the sandbox it is in?
