Sandboxie STEAM UAC mode (on windows 7) overloading cpu

Post by tapaiaron » Fri Nov 18, 2016 11:40 am

After starting more boxies with UAC administrator mode, it overloads your cpu. You get 100% cpu usage from a basic software running at multiple times on different boxies. Can u get a fix for this, it would be great. On later windows, like windows 10 there is no problem with it

Hello tapaiaron,

Could you please provide additional information so that we can try to reproduce the issue?

What OS version are you running? (32 bits or 64? )
What applications are you running as Administrator? And what else is running on the computer?
What SBIE version are you using? And how many boxes are you using?

Thank you.

I am using windows 7 64bits, I am running Steam.exe as administrator; (it has received a new update, that might be the issue). Besides sandboxie only nvidia, and razer driver manager running, no anti virus. I am running 9 sandboxes. I am using the latest version of sandboxie: 5.14 (64-bit)

tapaiaron,

I installed Steam on a VM with Windows 7 x64 and 2 gigs of RAM. I started it as admin, downloaded a game and launched i (all via Sandboxie).
I also created 2 more sandboxes and started 2 applications as Administrator. Aside from a few spikes, I am not seeing 100% cpu usage (more like 76 -80%) . .

Are you using all 9 Sandboxes at the time? What is the basic software that you are referring to?

Regards.

I am using counter strike global offensive with 9 sandboxed windows 640 480 resolution, 16gigabyte ram. Before Steam update all works good 70% cpu usage, now cpu overload to 100%; after steam update bootsrappers proccess go all the way up to 100% no matter how many boxes. It doesnt do it when i run the game without UAC. And on windows 8 it works good, no 100% cpu useage. I dont know if its compatiblity with sandboxie. I mean I dont know whether its sandboxie's fault (which I highly doubt) or steam's fault.

Thank you so much btw for helping us out. This thing worked for years and all of a sudden this day this happened.

tapaiaron,

It sounds that what you are doing is running several instances of the same program (csgo). Sandboxie was not designed for this purpose, so it depends on the program whether this can be achieved or not.

Running one instance of Steam -as Admin- + Game did not trigger any issues for me.

You may want to check the steam forums http://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discu ... 932223039/

Yes same problem here as the others above.

Windows 10 x64, before I could run 10 CSGO sandboxies as UAC admin and now steam client bootstrapper has high cpu usage. (I have high 6 core intel cpu so don't worry about how fast my PC is, trust me it's a beast machine)

Ever since new update the high cpu usage occurs. Maybe steam did something to stop us from doing this?

It was working well for months, now I'm sad it doesn't work as well as before :(

I have a lifetime sandboxie license.

Has someone tried new steam beta update?

I did more testing with the latest steam client beta update.

If you run one instance of:
steam + CSGO as UAC admin, steam client bootstrapper CPU usage is normal <0.5%.

Now when I run a second instance of:
steam + CSGO as UAC admin, steam client bootstrapper CPU usage is abnormal 8%>.

So if you have multiple instances as above, overall CPU usage will be near 100%

What could be causing this? CPU usage was normal per instance even when I ran 10 CSGO sandboxes.

Yes I have an nvidia card GTX 980 Ti.

I really hope this gets fixed or a workaround is found. It was working fine for many months on a lower driver version.

Here's a thread related to the Nvidia drivers + Sbie

http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 11&t=23306

As for running multiple instances, that is based on the program. You may want to check Steam Forums to see what's new with the latest update.

its not about nvidia driver, cuz yesterday it worked great (didnt update nvidia), however steam got updated=rip
when they cant make an optimized update. bleh:

"Fixed the client buildid not being reliably included in UserAgent for some web requests" I think these constant checks make it overload

Yes I think there is something about the new steam client update.

Anyway was this ever resolved? http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 11&t=23283 I reported this back in August. 368.81 is the last nvidia driver which worked.

And now the latest steam update client made things worse.

Guys, I don't know what happened but CPU usage for steam client bootstrapper decreased to normal levels now.

Maybe steam servers were overloaded causing steam.exe to keep polling?

EDIT: not yet fixed, on the 2nd steam instance onwards CPU usage is above 10%.
