WinZip takes a long time to appear

WinZip takes a long time to appear
Running Windows 10 (64-bit) with Winzip 19.5 (64-bit).
If I start Winzip from the Start Menu (without Sandboxie) the program appears within a second. Opening a ZIP file from the File Explorer shell context menu appears within a few seconds.
However, when launching Winzip from within Sandboxie (Ver. 5.16) it takes 5 minutes for the application to appear. This occurs for both launching from "Run from Start Menu" as well as from File Explorer (within the sandbox).
Not sure if this is something peculiar to my system or a Sandboxie issue.

I would try disabling your antivirus to see if the horrendous 5 minutes comes down to a couple of seconds. Sometimes antiviruses/other security programs cause delays launching programs sandboxed as well as deleting the sandbox when you close sandboxed programs.gwa000 wrote: However, when launching Winzip from within Sandboxie (Ver. 5.16) it takes 5 minutes for the application to appear. I am in W7, I think WinZip came with this computer and worked fine under Sandboxie. I have now 7Zip, works as fast sandboxed as unsandboxed. Even faster than WinRar which I also used in the past.

yeah, i disabled my anti-virus during a test of the issue. i forgot to add that fact to my original note.I would try disabling your antivirus to see if the horrendous 5 minutes comes down to a couple of seconds. i also have 7-zip installed and this program does not exhibit this delayed behavior. for that matter, none of the programs i have installed behaves this way within Sandboxie that i have tried.
BTW, the process (Winzip64.exe)does show up in the list of processes under the sandbox listed in the Sandbox Control window almost immediately. it's just that the UI does not appear for 5 minutes.

Re: WinZip takes a long time to appear
gwa000,
I am seeing the same behavior in Win 10 x64 + SBIE 5.17.
We'll look into it.

FWIW, the delay is exactly 5 minutes. ran a test twice and timed it. after the 5 minutes the UI appears.

Hi gwa000,
Can you please upgrade to the latest version of Winzip (21) and see if that helps?
I was able to launch that one without any issues.

Re: WinZip takes a long time to appear
barb,
i upgraded to Winzip 21, however i did the upgrade in a sandbox as i did not want to mess up my live system with a trial.
i saw the same result as you in that Winzip 21 launched in the sandbox without any delay.
hopefully, doing the installation in a sandbox suffices as far as what you were looking for.
seeing as how Winzip 21 launches properly without a delay i don't know if you are still going to pursue this issue, i.e. is it a Sandboxie issue or a Winzip bug?
would not really affect me as i rarely use Winzip in a sandbox and if necessary i could always use 7-zip as i also have that installed.
thanks for your help in corroborating that it is a Sandboxie or Winzip issue and not one particular to my system.

Re: WinZip takes a long time to appear
Hi gwa000,
It seems more like a Winzip issue than Sandboxie, since other versions do work fine.
I did not install Winzip 21 it inside SBIE, but on the host and did not experience any delays.
I have made the devs aware and will let you know if there are any updates. For the time being, can you use Winzip 21 instead?
