SBIE2202 Missing list of installed hardware devices
Hi Ronen.
I've installed 2.85.8, and now I'm getting this error when I run Firefox.

I do have a number of extensions installed, but none of them seem to be the sort of thing that checks for hardware.SnDPhoenix wrote:hmm, really weird, i wonder why the hell Firefox would be checking for installed devices? Do you have any addons/extensions installed? if so do one of them check for hardware, or monitor your hardware or something hardware related, either way i guess you could solve it though a trace?
At any rate, I've had these extensions for ages and never had this problem with previous versions of SBIE.
Silly question - how do I perform a trace?
I have a better idea. Perform a search on the forum for SBIE2202:Silly question - how do I perform a trace?

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the problem as the service is indeed running.tzuk wrote:I have a better idea. Perform a search on the forum for SBIE2202:Silly question - how do I perform a trace?

I hadn't tried that. But I have now, and unfortunately it hasn't helped.tzuk wrote:Then I suggest you re-install 2.85.8, have you tried that?
Incidentally, I also tried running IE7 sandboxed, and it gives the same message.
Firefox and IE7 still load and run correctly. The message is more of an annoyance than a problem.
This message normally indicates that some resources put up for use by SbieSvc are not there, or not accessible, which is why I asked if SbieSvc was running.
There was also a change in the resources that SbieSvc exposes, around version 2.85.8. So in this particular case, error 2202 here may indicate that you have some kind of mismatch of versions.
I can only suggest that you try version 2.86.
If that doesn't help, use WinObj and try to find stuff named Sandboxie_... in the BaseNamedObjects directory.

Hi again.tzuk wrote: I can only suggest that you try version 2.86.

I've tried 2.86, and I still get the error.
I have run WinObj (interesting tool), and I get the following in BaseNamedObjects:
Sandboxie_DeviceIdList - this has a small computer chip icon next to it.
Sandboxie_DeviceSetupClasses - this also has the chip icon next to it.
Sandboxie_Services - also has the chip icon.
Sandboxie_SingleInstanceMutex - this has a red "stop" icon next to it.
Sandboxie_WorkEvent - this has a yellow exclamation icon next to it.
Okay ... Strange. There is an object called Global, of type SymbolicLink, at the top of the BaseNamedObjects directory. Where does it point?
I noticed the SbieSvc creates its objects using just a name, for example, Sandboxie_DeviceIdList, whereas the sandboxed programs looks for it in "Global\Sandboxie_DeviceIdList". I wonder if that's the problem.

I'm afraid I don't really understand what WinObj does, so here's a couple of screenshots that may or may not help.tzuk wrote:Okay ... Strange. There is an object called Global, of type SymbolicLink, at the top of the BaseNamedObjects directory. Where does it point?

The second screenshot shows Global points back to BaseNamedObjects, which is normal. This means this isn't the problem.
I still think you must have some mismatch. Maybe somehow SbieDll was not updated, when you upgraded Sandboxie?
So how about an un-install and re-install then? Make sure the \Program Files\Sandboxie directory is gone, before you re-install.

Okay I'll give that a go a bit later on today.tzuk wrote:The second screenshot shows Global points back to BaseNamedObjects, which is normal. This means this isn't the problem.

I don't get it. 2.86 and 2.85 do the same in this regard, except that 2.86 does less!
In other words, in version 2.85 SbieSvc puts up three resources, and SbieDll tries to look for three.
In version 2.86, this is only two resources.
That's it, that's the difference, as far as the things that could generate the message 2202.
If you revert to 2.85, does it fix the message?
