How Would a Trojan Be Handled?

I have a secure setup following this board's advice. Still, I am curious how a trojan would behave within a sandbox that has not been locked down. Would most trojans be pretty much harmless given the fundamental nature of the program? even without effecting program/internet/file access restrictions? Or could things like keyloggers, etc. still be put into effect?
