RegHive files

Post by scarid » Wed Jul 17, 2013 9:35 am

Hi guys,

in every sandbox folder there are multiple RegHive files. Here an example of one of my sandboxes:

RegHive
RegHive.LOG1
RegHive.LOG2
RegHive{8010e76d-ee25-11e2-ad04-001b21497de3}.TM.blf
RegHive{8010e76d-ee25-11e2-ad04-001b21497de3}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms
RegHive{8010e76d-ee25-11e2-ad04-001b21497de3}.TMContainer00000000000000000002.regtrans-ms

I have read about the RegHive files on http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?SandboxHierarchy. I think that the file RegHive contains the registry data and the RegHive.LOG files the registry changes which come up when the sandboxed application runs. Is that correct?

What I don't understand is what the other files are for (*.TM.blf, *.regtrans-ms). Are they specific for the computer I created the sandbox on because their filenames contain IDs? Is it not recommended to copy these (maybe computer specific) files to another computer on which I would also like to have exactly the same sandbox (I know that I would have to edit the sandboxie.ini)?

Maybe someone can give some information about this filestructure.

Thank you in advance!

That SandboxHierarchy was written for Windows XP which has only a couple of files per registry hive. Windows Vista added all the other reg files. In any case Sandboxie justs asks Windows to create a standalone registry hive, and Windows is managing all these files for the hive.
