SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
Trying out Sandboxie for the first time. Currently have Windows 10, upgraded from Windows 8. Downloaded the latest Sandboxie version twice, and couldn't even get past the tutorial twice. Tutorial 3/6 prompted me to run the Sandboxed Web Browser. I did, but nothing happened. So I ran it as administrator. Sandboxie popped up an error message, which repeated over and over again:
SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
I closed the tutorial and tried the program anyway. Same problem.
Uninstalling.

Yes, I suddenly have the same problem.
I've used Sandboxie for years, but I had a hard drive fail and I just got a bunch of new parts and rebuilt the PC. It's been running (with sandboxie) for about 5 days, and sandboxie has been functioning properly.
I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 on and AMD A10 APU with an MSI AX88XM mainboard. I've installed a couple of Windows updates that DEMANDED to be insalled (lol) a couple of days ago. (I could probably figure out what they are if anyone needs to know.)
I use Sandboxie to check applications I see on the internet for malware, etc., and (as I said) it's been working fine.
Yesterday I tried to run an app (that I had run in the sandbox a couple of days ago successfully) sandboxed. It would not run, and I got "SBIE2303 Could not hook PowerSettingRegisterNotification (1)". I assumed it was a trojan in the application and gave up.
Today, just as a quick check, I tried to run a notepad file sandboxed. When I did, I got the same error. So I looked (using Windows Explorer) at the DefaultBox. It wasn't there! I mean the entire DefautBox wasn't there! Just my user name, nothing after that.
I uninstalled sandboxie (including the settings) and reinstalled it. Once again I tried to run a notepad document sandboxed, and I got the same error. So I went to the notification icon and selected default box, delete contents. IT DELETED THE DefaultBox FOLDER AGAIN!
Once again, I've reinstalled Sandboxie, and even though I haven't even tried to do anything with it, I'm getting a pop-up saying "SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)". It keeps repeatingly popping up, so I looked in the DefaultBox, and what in there is (of course DONT_USE.TXT) and RegHive 256k...
I was blaming the malware app, but now I think that it's a Windows update that's causing the problem.
Could someone from Sandboxie check an updated Windows 8.1 AMD A10 PC and see what the problem is?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have the same error message under Windows 10 when I try to install any program with Sandboxie.
It is also impossible to launch any program with Sandboxie.
This problem appeared after the Windows upgrade : 7 to 10.
Thanks for your work to resolve this issue.

Are you using the default Edge browser installed by Windows 10? Sandboxie is not compatible with the Edge browser.ktchong wrote:Trying out Sandboxie for the first time. I have the same problem as of yesterday -- running Windows 8.0, last automatic updates installed 19 Aug, and Opera browser v31.0. Problem also arises using Firefox v.38. Opening the browser within Sandbox first produces a message that Sandbox has failed to load rpcepmap.dll, then the repeating SBIE2204 message described by other sufferers. Currently forced to use the internet outside Sandbox and to disable the Sandbox error repitition through Task Manager. This does not seem to be an only-Windows-10 issue.
Looking forward to early assistance! Thanks

Same here.
Had sandboxie installed on Windows 8.1
Upgraded W8.1 to W10
Uninstalled Sandboxie
Reboot
Install SandboxieInstall64-501-10 (the beta SB for W10)
Cant run or install anything. Even if I try to open a .jpg sandboxed I get error "Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)"
Awsome if someone can fix or explain to me what I might be doing wrong

Re: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
Nevermind, my bad. I downloaded the OLD version. I click on the big download link instead of the "Click here" in the tiny "Sandboxie now supports Windows 10. Click here for the beta version" below everything bigger and shinier that distracted me. It is working fine now.

Re: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
I have this problem on two computers. One now has W10 and I've assumed this was the problem, but I've lost internet connection for some reason so can't download the new beta version at the moment.
Tthe other has W8.1. SB was working fine on this but doesn't now. I just get the RpcSs error and also a message saying SB can't use the RegisterPowerSettingNotification function. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SB.
I have AVG Internet Security 2015.

Re: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
I to have an updated OS to Windows 10. I'm running AVG as my antivirus program. I've tried disabling virus protection, UAC, etc. Nothing works. The tutorial is a fail (my browser is set to the latest version of Firefox). I'm about to run Dependency Walker over the damn thing to figure out where it hangs up.
Re: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
I have to hope some assistance with this will be forthcoming — currently still have an intrusively useless Sandbox. Not planning to shift to Win10 v soon.
Any suggestions from on high / out there...?

In the change log here http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 53&t=21354 it's detailed. This is an error that is machine dependent. With that sad, after you get the error and relaunch..does it happen again?? I'm told by the Devs it should not. It's a load/race issue. And simply trying again resolves it.BishopJ wrote:I have to hope some assistance with this will be forthcoming — currently still have an intrusively useless Sandbox. Re: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)
Thank you for responding, though I'm afraid I'm not much clearer. The change log you refer to doesn't seem to help me much as I don't know what a "rare race condition" or a "load/race issue" (outside of medicine and politics), though I assume it means something is grabbing the DLL before Sandboxie can use it. Please forgive the confusion (and no doubt long-windedness) of a technically illiterate old man: feel free to treat me as a child (you'd probably be better off with a real one)!Craig@Invincea wrote:In the change log here http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 53&t=21354 it's detailed. Should I have installed a newer beta version of SBIE (currently v.4.20 64-bit)?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say "relaunch". At the moment trying to open a browser inside SBIE (all that I am trying to do) produces first a message "Could not load service DLL - rpcepmap.dll". The only option is to OK that, which produces much machine activity (>30% of CPU being used by Sandboxie COM Services (RPC) according to Task Manager) and then the looping SBIE2204 message. There doesn't seem to be a way of stopping this other than Task Manager. Trying to open the browser again while it is happening produces nothing. Stopping the looping then opening the browser again, or opening a different browser inside SBIE, just starts the process over again.
What has caused this to happen after some years of relatively uneventful Sandboxie use?
For the record it's a basic Lenovo G505S laptop with AMD A10 chip, running Windows 8.0 not upgraded but automatically updated, also running a Stardock 'Start8' Windows front end mask and AVG Internet Security 2015.
Many thanks.
