TF2 Idling

Post by Noobular » Thu Aug 13, 2015 5:02 pm

Well, i have .bat files to launch sandboxie then launch from the box to start steam, which then starts the game at the specific launch settings and when tf2 launches for some reason it just closes imediately. Not really sure what could even be causing the issue, launching works fine outside of sandboxie though.
Windows 10

Yea, I idle in CS:GO, and I'm experiencing the same problem. But I guess we just have to wait for a patch. Kinda sucks tho, considering school is about to start (tomorrow for me), it's a lot of lost idling time.

version 5.01.11 should be posted anytime now. We tested Steam and it works in this version.

Upgraded to 5.01.11 and csgo still terminates after few secs.
Guess we'll have to wait some more :)

Does it give you any errors? Or does it simply quit? We've tested a few games on Steam. Obviously, not all of them.

I'm having this problem too. Latest version of Sandboxie (which I just bought specifically so I could continue launching my Steam alts with Sandboxie in Windows 10). I've given the sandboxes full and direct access to the entire drives containing Steam and Team Fortress 2. However when I tell it to launch TF2 the HL2.exe process appears in the sandbox for about a second then disappears. There are no error messages or anything.

I would also like to say (and I would edit this in to my previous post except I'm still waiting for it to be approved) that a tested a game called "Receiver" and it worked just fine in Sandboxie, but still no go for TF2. What this should prove is that it's something about TF2 and hopefully not any of my Sandboxie settings (which are the same as they were on my old pc with Win7 where everything worked fine).

Steam is working. TF2 does not appear to be working. We can't test every game, but we can look into it.

There is a huge difference in...well..everything from how Win 7 and Win 10 work under the hood.

I understand you can't test every game but TF2 is free for everyone. Hopefully you saying it doesn't appear to be working means you have tested it. I also hope you are looking into a fix for this problem and will release it soon. Thank you for the response :).

Given how Steam works and the requirements for services and permissions for different games (DirectX video, etc ,etc, etc) it may not. You can edit the .ini file and have Steam and this particular game permission to access the resources, but then you're defeating what SBIE was designed to do...not allow this.

I tried TF2 and got the same issue...quick window then nothing. It would take time to see if there was even a work around for this game, but the next game may require something different.

We've also tried a few free games as well and I've tried a few of my paid games. Paid games I've installed outside of SBIE then ran them in the SB. a few worked okay, others not so much. Same for the free ones.

The sole reason I use Sandboxie (and paid for it) is so I can have multiple instances of Steam running on my PC and have my alt accounts launch games (almost exclusively TF2) while I do other stuff with my main non-sandboxed account. I don't care if they access resources and whatnot because I don't do anything with them that might be dangerous. So can you walk me step by step on how I might edit this .ini file (including which one and where it is) so that I may get TF2 running on my sandboxed alt accounts?

Early this morning, I tested my old gaming machine (Win 7/64 AMD quad w/ high end graphics) with Steam and SBIE v5.01.12. The machine hadn't had a windows update in almost 2 years. It's low on HDD space and cluttered.I updated windows. I then installed Steam. I let Steam update. I then installed the Beta.

I ran Steam "in a Sandbox" and logged in. I could see my old library of games. I went and downloaded TF2. I let it download and installed along w/ DirectX.

After it was complete. I clicked play, fully expecting for it to not load or just load quickly and disappear like the reports we are seeing.

it loaded perfectly. Full sound. Full graphics. I had ZERO issues. I then downloaded and tried Bioshock. Same. Flawless.

Now, in testing @ work. TF2 wouldn't cooperate. It wouldn't work. I'm thinking that's more of the testing being inside a VM. However, other games have worked in testing.

I captured a screen movie and sent it to Curt this morning for review to show that in fact, gaming...at least for Steam and this particular game is working.

He concluded this isn't anything inherently in the v5 code to stop games from loading.

Soooo, With that, all we can say at this time, we need specific steps you may do that caused a game not to load. Are you running A/V? Error codes? Did it try to load? Logs? Dump files? SBIE Resource monitor logs? etc.etc.
