What are the actuall disadvantages from sandboxie w8/w8x64?

Post by win8user » Thu Jan 03, 2013 9:50 am

hello,

I read the win8 text at the sandboxie homepage, but I don't get how less protection I have compared to win7. I use sanboxie for my browser against malware but now I'm on win8(notebook) and win8x64(desktop) and unsure what to do about that problem.Iis there a solution in the near future to make sanboxie as good as in win7?

Yeah I agree I also would like know how this could be a major disadvantage and what types of malware/viruses could use this to there advantage. I know Experimental Protection Mode allows SB to have %99 integration with the 64bit kernel. But some hypothetical examples would be nice. And sorry for posting another question I'm not trying to spam it's just that I agree with win8user's question.

I will have an update on Windows 8 support with the next beta version. It's still a bit buggy so I am going to need a few more days before I can release it.

That is good news, i have been waiting for the experimental support for Windows 8 x64,so that sandboxie can be at its best.

My impression is that almost all new computers are sold with a 64-bit version of Windows.

Thank you tzuk, but I wanted to know if there is a difference between the two? Because I'm already using Win8 for now with 32bit on my system, there's no complication so far on my sandboxie. what's for for 64bit, any updates or features will happen?

I don't really understand your question. 32-bit Windows requires 32-bit Sandboxie, 64-bit Windows requires 64-bit Sandboxie. There's no question of choice about that.

When you get the Software compatibility window after installing Sandboxie, that doesn't mean that you are getting an error. It means that Sandboxie has detected software that is installed in your computer that will work better with Sandboxie if you apply this compatibility settings.

Open the Software compatibility window by navigating to: Sandboxie control>Configure>Software compatibility, to make sure the listed programs have a check mark and run your browser to see if SBIE is working properly.
