PageFile

Why does Sandboxie not create a pagefile.sys in the sandbox? Or does it but I've never seen it? Is it not so that sandboxed programs interact with the system pagefile, and could possibly plant something bad there?

i think you don't understand what a pagefile is...

it's just a virtual extension of your system memory (RAM)...

you don't have a seperate stick of memory in your computer for sandboxie do you? :)

usualy the pagefile is only used when there's not enough RAM available, those actions to that pagefile are by the system, not the programms running in the sandbox.

When you download and/or run badware it also resides in your RAM or pagefile... depending on where windows writes it.

You are right on the money, newbie here. lol

So if I happen to come across a bad site while I am in the sandbox, That information is also stored in the windows ram or pagefile - which is not in the sandbox.

But still no way for it to get out, right?

To keep this simple, you can think of the page file as an extension of memory. Sandboxed programs live alongside unsandboxed programs in memory, and still isolation is kept. The same principle also applies within the page file.

Thank you very much. I don't need to understand (nor do I want to - lol), but your quick response has decided the issue. I have been testing your product for about a week and really like it, so I will go ahead and purchase it.

once again, thank you -
