Problem updating, only sometimes, but shouldnt happen at all
I check for beta releases everyday. I am currently running v4.05.11 and trying to update to v4.05.12
I am running Win7 Home Prem x64.
This problem Ive been having is weird. I made a little video to show you.

It happens sometimes when I update SBie, other times updates go fine. It is starting to bother me tho. It is not specific to build .12 as it has happened on earlier builds that Ive installed. If I wait a few minutes sometimes the update will finally work, other times I have to reboot Windows and then try update to get it to install. thanx

Thanx for the reply. This is not the case(for me atleast). This has happened to me after Ive been booted up for a long time. It always gets stuck at the file License.txt. It is always that same file every single time it happens.tzuk wrote:I think this happens when you try to install, shortly after your computers starts up.
The Sandboxie services are still trying to start, and cannot be deleted at that time.
It seems to get stuck on LICENSE.TXT because it is the last one in a set of files If any file in the set failed, the installer asks to retry the entire set. Maybe your anti-virus is keeping the files or locked or something. You might try a tool like Process Explorer, there is a find command that will let you see which process is holding onto some files. You should look for SbieDll or SbieSvc.

OK thank you. So if LICENSE.TXT is the last file I am assuming it installed OK cuz who really needs an updated txt file? Am I correct? So the next time this happens I can just ignore it and know that Ive updated correctly?tzuk wrote:It seems to get stuck on LICENSE.TXT because it is the last one in a set of files If any file in the set failed, the installer asks to retry the entire set. No, there is an actual error there. What I said was the installer first tries to update a bunch of files. Then checks for errors. So if the error it appears, it appears when LICENSE.TXT is shown because it was the last file in the bunch. Doesn't mean the problem was with LICENSE.TXT, and chances are the problem was not with LICENSE.TXT.

SOLVED
I am still experiencing this problem when trying to update Sandboxie. I did however find the culprit and a way to get passed this error. I found that it is exporer.exe that is causing the problem. I tried a few programs like "Unlocker" http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/ and while Unlocker was able to tell me that the files trying to be updated were "locked" by explorer.exe it failed to "unlock" the files for me because the installation would still get stuck on License.txt. Today I tried to update to the newest beta and the problem happened again. This time I didnt mess with trying to "unlock" any files. What I did was start task manager and then I terminated the process explorer.exe. My desktop went blank except for the installation of Sandboxie that was waiting at the prompt "retry or cancell". I hit retry and the installation completed correctly. Then ctrl-alt-delete to bring up task manager and restarted explorer.exe. While I still dont know why explorer.exe is being such a pain in the ass atleast I can get around it now and finish the updating of Sandboxie when needed. [/b]

Reinstall an entire OS just because of one little install glitch. Thanx for the good laugh! I quit such nonsense back when I was running Windows for Workgroups. Anyways my screwed up OS, as you put it, is atleast capable of going online, logging in to this forum and LMFAO@Udoktornotor wrote:I'd suggest to reinstall your messed up OS from scratch instead of hunting ghosts with Sandboxie.
