easiest way to run a browser sandboxed?

Post by mouse » Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:02 am

I recently moved from Xp to Win 7 and noticed that opening a browser in my preferred sandbox is not that quick. I have all browsers set up to automatically run sandboxed (default) but also have specific finance sandboxes I only use for banking. In Xp I just rightclicked the icon in the bottom toolbar, chose run sandboxed via another rightclick and picked my finance box. Now the icons in the bottom bar only allow me to start the program in default mode. So I have to use the start bar with all programs listed, some of the listings (e.g. Chrome) don't have sandboxed in the rightclick menu. I need to scroll through all programs, find Google, click on the folder, then rightclick on the program before I can choose the relevant sandbox.
It's no biggie but just a bit longer than I like and I pretty sure there are better ways to do this (for me) - so this is less a question for sandbox but more to other Win 7 users how shortcut this process.

The new buttons in the Windows 7 taskbar don't support something like Run Sandboxed.

But that doesn't mean you can't have old-style Quick Launch icons where Run Sandboxed works.
Right click on your taskbar and select Toolbars -> Quick Launch.
Then drag a browser shortcut icon from your desktop to the corner of your taskbar near the tray area,
your drag cursor should change to something like "Create link in Quick Launch."

Then you can right-click on this new icon and you will have the option for Run Sandboxed.

Another approach is to go to Sandboxie Control > Configure menu > Windows Shell Integration > Add Shortcut Icons button,
which let you create desktop shortcuts to run a pre-selected program (like your browser) in a pre-selected sandbox.

I hope this helps!
