Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1 [SOLVED]

Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1 [SOLVED]
Here the second problem I have to report concerning Firefox 58.0.1:
The starting page loads extremely slowly within the sandbox since the update to Firefox 58.0.1:
It takes about 15 seconds! (With the previous version of Firefox [57.0.4] it were about 3 to 4 seconds.)
The problem obviously is not connected exclusively with Sandboxie. For example in the following link other users of Firefox report the same issue although they obviously do not use Sandboxie: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3037756
But unfortunately with about 15 seconds the delay is extreme when starting the browser within the sandbox. Outside the sandbox the delay (on my system) is by far smaller (perhaps 4-5 seconds with FF 58.0.1 instead of 2-3 seconds with FF 57.0.4).
Windows 7, Home Premium, 32 bit
Sandboxie version 5.22

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Hello Peter 123,
Does the issue occur after applying these changes?: (this doesn't only affect sound)
viewtopic.php?p=130456#p130456
Do you have any nvidia drivers installed?:
viewtopic.php?p=127330#p127330
Does the issue follow you to a new Sandbox with default settings?
Please also test using a new Firefox profile and let us know the results.
Are there any extensions involved?
Last thing, if all fails, try disabling your antivirus and re-testing to see if the behavior changes.
Regards,
Barb.-

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1 [SOLVED]
Hello Barb and thanks for all your support.
The advice from the first linked thread did not help. (Reducing the value for "security.sandbox.content.level" brought back the sound but did not fix the issue with the delay in loading the starting page.)
Nevertheless I found (indirectly) the solution in another thread linked by APMichael.
It's this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25364
I followed the following advice given there by bo.elam and by Geordy (originally also for the sound problem):
Again in about:config of Firefox (opening it outside the sandbox) I changed the value for browser.tabs.remote.autostart from "true" to "false". (The value for "browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2" should already be on "false" by default.)
After this change Firefox starts again within the Sandbox as it did before the update to version 58.0.1. (That means: with essentially no delay.)
Many thanks to APMichael (for the link) and especially to bo.elam and Geordy (for the solution).
PS:
@ Barb:
Yes, I have nvidia drivers installed. I (hope I) will keep in mind the other thread you mentioned, in case that there is a n new problem with a delay.

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
PS:
I have to add something:
With the above method unfortunately the problem is not resolved completely. Indeed the starting page loads without problem now but when changing from there to another website there is now (often? / always?) a remarkable delay - not when loading it (as far as I can say) but afterwards when you try to scroll on the website or to open a link etc. In these situations the browser freezes now for some seconds and only after this delay the action is performed.
So additional advices are still welcome.
Nevertheless, to my mind the situation is better than it was before and it seems that the new delay (short freezing) happens only one time and not later again while browsing.
(Firefox is so annoying with its permanent technical changes. )

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Hello Peter 123,
Please provide the results of Res. Acc. Monitor while reproducing the issue:
https://www.sandboxie.com/ResourceAccessMonitor
Do this in a new sandbox with default settings, and if needed, test using a new Firefox profile.
Is the issue affecting all websites or just one? What's the site?
Did you check your nvidia drivers as suggested?
Are there any extensions involved?
Have you tried disabling your antivirus software to see if the results change?
Also, double check that the sandbox content level / multiprocess changes did not revert outside Sandboxie.
Regards,
Barb.-

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Thanks Barb.
According with the above described issues I tested with 2 scenarios concerning the modifications in about:config
Scenario A:
- security.sandbox.content.level: value reduced from 4 (= default) to 2
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart: true (= default)
---> Effect: delay when loading the starting page (afterwards all works witout delay).
Scenario B:
- security.sandbox.content.level: 4 (= default)
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart: value changed from true (= default) to false
---> Effect: starting page is loading immediately but later on the browser hangs/freezes for some seconds when trying to perform certain actions like scrolling on the site or clicking on a link.
Here a specific situation with which I tested Scenario B when activating the Resource Access Monitor:
- Starting the browser (within Sandboxie) --> the starting page (google.at) opens without delay ---> from my bookmarks I choose this forum (forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3) ---> the forum page opens also without delay ---> I click on one of the links in the list "LAST POST" ---> after clicking the browser hangs/freezes and only after some seconds the post opens. - This seems to happen only one time. Afterwards using the browser (staying either on the same page or going to any other one) seems to work smoothly, without any further delay.
(so that you can fully compare I made exactly the same steps as in Scenario B, going from the starting page to my bookmarks, choosing from there the Sandboxie Forum and then clicking on a link under "LAST POST"):
The result for Scenario B:
The same concerning scenario B: The freezing (when scrolling or clicking on certain links on a website etc.) happens on various websites.
But I would not like to experiment with it (updating or deactivating or replacing something etc.) because I do not want to risk the stability of my system because all works fine (with the exception of the issues produced by those silly and annoying Firefox updates).
Thanks again for your attention and your support.

When using a new Firefox profile (no changes in about:config) all worked fine! (No delay with the starting page, no delay later on!)
It obvioulsy affects all websites. I changed the starting page (from google.at to sandboxie.com) and the delay in loading (scenario A) also existed.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:03 amIs the issue affecting all websites or just one? What's the site?
The same concerning scenario B: The freezing (when scrolling or clicking on certain links on a website etc.) happens on various websites.
I checked which my drivers is: NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G, version 8.17.11.9562
But I would not like to experiment with it (updating or deactivating or replacing something etc.) because I do not want to risk the stability of my system because all works fine (with the exception of the issues produced by those silly and annoying Firefox updates).
Currently I use NoScript and WX Downlaod Status Bar. Deactivating them had no influence. The issues remained.
I only use Microsoft Security Essentials. Disabling it has no effect.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:03 amHave you tried disabling your antivirus software to see if the results change?
I checked it. The changes in about:config remained stable.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:03 amAlso, double check that the sandbox content level / multiprocess changes did not revert outside Sandboxie.
Thanks again for your attention and your support.

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Hello Peter 123,
Otherwise, just switch to the new profile if there are no issues with it.
Regards,
Barb.-
Then you may want to go back to your previous profile to see what's in it and add changes to the new one, one at a time (say one extension at a time, , one about:config setting at a time, and so on) to see if that helps finding out the culprit. When using a new Firefox profile (no changes in about:config) all worked fine! Hello Barb,
both are not very attractive solutions:
All because of that damned Firefox ...
Did you see anything informative or suspicious in the results of the Res. Acc. Monitor?

That's a lot of cumbersome work.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:51 pmThen you may want to go back to your previous profile to see what's in it and add changes to the new one, one at a time (say one extension at a time, , one about:config setting at a time, and so on) to see if that helps finding out the culprit.
That would mean to loose all my settings etc.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:51 pmOtherwise, just switch to the new profile if there are no issues with it.

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Hello Peter 123,
Unfortunately, I am not seeing anything specific in your Res. Acc. Mon outputs.
This may help you copy your old profile and migrate parts of it to a new one:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ba ... x-profiles
There is also a refresh Firefox option you may want to review (which does delete certain things, so be sure to make a backup if you decide to go this route):
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/re ... d-settings
Your can also try to clear things from your current profile after making a backup (delete the cache, remove extensions one by one, reset the about:config settings, update your drivers, pretty much what was already suggested to see if you can get it to work that way).
Regards,
Barb.-

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Thank you once more, Barb.
I created now a new profile in Firefox, migrated more or less all the relevant parts of the old profile and compared all entries in about:config (where I could find no relevant differences). That means: The new profile should be more or less identical with the old one.
Nevertheless the difference concerning the issue remains: With the default value "true" for "browser.tabs.remote.autostart" in the old profile I have the delay for the starting page within Sandboxie; when using the new profile the page loads immediately!
So it is indeed tempting to switch to the new profile as you wrote above. On the other hand I fear that there might be some other tiny details in the new profile that differ from the old one and which possibly lead to new problems.
So I think that at least at the moment I will stay with the old profile, accepting the delay when loading the starting page (the other scenario - with the freezing of the browser some steps later - is even worse).

Re: Slow loading of the starting page with Firefox 58.0.1
Hi Peter, if it was me, I would switch to the new profile and forget about the old one. Sounds like old one is corrupted. The times I switched to a new profile to avoid bringing old issues into the new profile I bring as little as possible from the old one to the new one. Other than bookmarks, pretty much the rest is done from scratch.

Hello Bo,
That's exactly what I did now (during all the last hours ), against my initial intentions. It was a terrible lot of work but at the moment with the new profile all seems to work o.k. I hope it will stay so.
