Bellzemos, if you are using the Avast web shield or anything like a URL filter, you could disable it or uninstall it (for testing). Unlike Joe, Adblock plus don't cause any problems for me, as far as I can tell, never has.

I only have EasyList and Other Youtube Annoyances in the ABP so I guess that's not the cause.

I've tried and disabled the Avast Web shield but the "FF sluggishnes" is about the same.

Based on my personal experience using Firefox in two computers with ABP, same filters you are using plus Easy privacy, I say ABP is not the cause.

If the sluggishness is something that you are experiencing every day, for testing, I would create a new Firefox profile and use it with SBIE for a few hours. I mean, if the problem is something you experience every day and you dont get any with the new profile. Get rid of the old profile and start adding your addons to the new one.

Relax, Joe. You might of noticed that I said "Based on my personal experience"

I have read the same articles about ABP that you have but that doesnt mean ABP is causing Bells problem. I think is possible, ABP can be causing him issues. A good way to find out is to create the new Firefox profile and see what happens. The new profile comes without addons, if he still gets the sluggishness with the new profile, you know what that means. And if he doesn't get it with the new profile, then the cause of his problem could be ABP or another addon. Thats why I recommended to create the new Firefox profile. Cheers.

I think that this is a great idea even though I'm 99% sure that a sandboxed Firefox with a new profile will act the same as now. But yes, I want to test it! Would you please tell me how to create a new FF profile and use it - but without using the old one. Later I want to remove the new one and go back to the old one like nothing happened. :) Thanx!

Bellzemos, here are the instructions. Just make sure not to delete the old profile. You can keep both profiles but use only the new one for your testing. I suggest you use Firefox with the new profile as you normally use the browser. Don't add any addons for a few hours. After creating the new profile, when you click the Firefox icon at your desktop or taskbar, Firefox will run sandboxed, you ll see a fresh brand new Firefox open up without addons, bookmarks, etc.

Thanks Bo, I just got round to that.
A quick update, my freezes seem to have ceased . I removed Adblock, Sumatra PDF and disabled the openh264 video codec. I did not update Sandboxie or firefox
I put Sumatra back on the day after out of necessity, I waited about 4 days before I put Adblock back on ( I never realised how many ads I was missing )
So it could be the video add on or an outdated Sumatra, I don't know.
I will experiment on my desktop, which also had the same problem and post back.
Many thanks for all your help,

If you install the Sumatra plugin and your problem is caused by the plugin, here is a solution that allows you to get rid of the plugin and still be able to view PDF files while browsing.

This is what I do I do with Foxit but I am pretty sure you can try it also with Sumatra. I don't install the PDF plugin and in Firefox Tools>Options>Applications, I set PDF to Always ask. The end result of doing this is that I avoid installing the PDF plugin. And when I click on a PDF link, I get the option to save the PDF to the hard drive or to open. If I click open, the PDF runs in the Firefox sandbox out of the browser.

So, if the plugin is the reason of your issue, doing this allows you to get rid of the plugin and still be able to view PDFs while browsing. If you try this out and you are using an Start Run restricted sandbox, you need to add Sumatra to the list of programs that are allowed to run. You wont need to allow Sumatra internet access. I have been handling PDFs like this for a very long time, it works really nice.

Hello!

I'm running Firefox in a new profile without AdBlock Plus for some days now and it's been working without any freezing whatsoever - I am pleasantly surprised. :) I will install AdBlock Plus into this new profile today and see if the freezes will start again.

Thank you for all the help!

if adblock plus is a problem you could try uBlock - i was having a different issue and switching to uBlock from ABP solved it. also - i assume you know there's a built in pdf viewer in firefox - no need for a plugin if you don't need the added features.

Second issue was with a sound. Sometimes it's just gone for apps running inside sandboxie.

I'm running Win10 now, FF out of sandbox. I'll let you know if I notice those issues out of sandbox.
I didn't notice any freezes and sound issues while running Firefox out of sandbox. I use Adguard app instead of Adblock extension but it can use adblock lists

I have switched over to FF from Palemoon because I wanted to test out µBlock which I couldn't in Palemoon. Just like some of the other extensions also not working in Palemoon since they updated. So, I installed FF and seen that plugin, "media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled" and wanted to get rid of it, so thanks Bo have done that now it's history. 8)
Now about FF, I installed the extension, µBlock and activated 10 of it's filters, along with NoScript and FF is running in Sandboxie like a charm, no slow downs and low memory. I also have MBAM Pro the 1.75 version running in real time with Website blocking enabled. As much as I liked Palemoon I think this current setup is going to be a keeper for me. :D
As far as Sandboxie is concerned, it's running A-One for me and has been for the last 5 years. Probably is why I don't post much in this forum.
Laterz all, over and out. :)

So what is openh264 video codec for then if you can just get rid of it? What do you lose? Thanks.
