Content of Sandboxes Gone [SOLVED]

Post by BhT9kq1U » Mon Mar 06, 2017 3:45 pm

Occasionally, after several weeks or months, the contents of my sandboxes will be gone, including the Hive file and sub directories.
I like to install applications in sandboxes, and leave them there. They do not self delete after an app closes or anything like that. It allows me to keep my main system as free of clutter as possible.
However, lately, I've had the contents disappear from ALL my sandboxes (about 15+). Now I have to reinstall those programs, etc...
This has happened on my desktop computer (self built main machine) as well as my laptop (Asus some-such-thing).

One thing, I have not checked either
" [ ] Automatically delete contents of sandbox" or
" [ ] Never remove this sandbox or delete its contents"

Windows 10 x64 - Sandboxie 5.16 (x64).

Hello BhT9kq1U,

Are you seeing this problem from Sandboxie Control in File/Folder view?
How about Windows Explorer, Is there anything inside the C:\Sandbox location?

Do you have any external programs that might be targeting the above listed location (or your desired Sandbox location) such as Antivirus?

Regards,
Barb.-

Barb, thank you for your quick reply.

1.) I typically only use windows explorer to get to files. I can tell the directories are empty by the icon of the folder. Currently, I have FLIRC and Firefox populated with files, however, Firefox self deletes when Firefox closes (man do I love sandboxie).
2.) I only use Windows Defender for virus mitigation.

I've been a very loyal sandboxie license owner for 8+ years(?), so I found it strange to happen randomly on my other machines, especially considering they are configured so differently. The main desktop is exclusively for power applications (CAD/Engineering), while the laptop is just Excel/Word/Firefox for school work.

I'm considering building a new main desktop machine anyway, as there may be some hard drive issues at play. That could potentially explain this problem I've been having. It's the two PC's (one older, one less then a year old), exhibiting the same behavior that's throwing me off.

Regards

Hi BhT9kq1U,

Have you made any recent changes to all of your computers (installed new software or changed policies)? What type of files/programs were saved to your Sandboxes?
If they were deleted, you can try this:
https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?SecureDeleteSandbox

If you navigate to your Sandbox location on your C: drive, do you see the files within Windows Explorer?

Please post your Sandboxie.ini configuration so that we can have a look.

Regards,
Barb.-

Hi Barb,
Give me a few days, as I want to look at how each machine is configured before I answer, and see how the laptop is fairing in relation to the desktop (.ini, etc). Thanks!

If you use CCleaner it will delete the Sandbox contents if: CCleaner >Cleaner > Applications > Utilities > Sandboxie is check marked.

Whoa, CCLEANER! That's absolutely it!

I thought CCleaner was smart. Guess I was wrong!
Devastating, but... not really.
I will still use CCleaner religiously, but will uncheck Sandboxie. Thanks!
