Folders or files are not automatically copied into the sandbox when they are read.
Only items that are modified by a sandboxed program will be written inside of the sandbox, to a folder that corresponds to the location of that item outside of the sandbox.
Other items are merely read from where they are located, outside of the sandbox, if they are not modified by a sandboxed program.
If a file that is to be modified is larger than the file size set in the File Migration setting, then that file will not be copied into the sandbox and attempts by a sandboxed program to modify that file will fail.
There is a Read-Only setting, but if you use it, any attempt by a sandboxed program to write a modified file there will generate an error message, and it open a Browse window so that the item can be saved someplace else.

I think File Access > Read-Only Access is what you need.aktrl wrote: How do i use sandboxie with a program and let the program access a folder without copying it to the sandbox (preferred in read only mode ) ?

Read under File access heading. There you can read about whats different. In short, the setting that you should use depends on whether the program running sandboxed is installed in the real system or in the sandbox.

If a program is running sandboxed, it can only read files and folders that are outside of the sandbox.aktrl wrote:What is the resource access>file access> direct access or full access ?
If the program tries to modify some file that's outside of the sandbox, then the modified copy of the file is actually saved inside of the sandbox.
That modified file will be used by the sandboxed program from then on, until the sandbox contents are deleted, because its presence there "hides" a file by the same name that's located outside of the sandbox.
If you create a Direct Access setting to a file or folder for a program, then that sandboxed program can not only read the files outside of the sandbox but can also write to the file or folder outside of the sandbox, as listed in the setting.
Direct File Access is used when the .exe program that is running sandboxed is installed (located) outside of the sandbox.
If the .exe program that is running sandboxed is actually installed inside of the sandbox, then Direct Access won't allow it to write outside of the sandbox - Full Access is needed, in that case.
