Blocking com/serial ports

Post by Archiddeon » Mon Mar 13, 2017 10:04 pm

Hi,

How would I block a specific com/serial port for a sandbox? For instance my PC has COM 1 and COM 2 and I want the sandboxed programs to see COM 2 but not COM 1.

Thank you :)

Hello Archiddeon ,

Sandboxie allows you to block certain things, such as ports, paths, etc...The idea is to keep sandboxed applications from modifying the host , not from seeing it:

Can you provide more information regarding what are you trying to do?

Regards,
Barb.-

Thanks for the reply, Barb.

I'm trying to run multiple USB oscilloscopes on a single PC (they have built-in USB-serial converters so show up as COM ports when connected). The software does not, unfortunately, allow for the selection of different COM ports and simply tries to connect to the first valid COM port it sees. Multiple instances of the software hence all try to connect to the same scope, causing communication problems on the first scope and leaving the others unused.

I was hoping to be able to create a separate sandbox for each instance of the software. The first sandbox could only communicate with COM 1 (i.e. scope 1), the second with COM 2 (i.e. scope 2), etc.

Is that possible?

Sandboxie does not sandbox USB or serial devices.
