Show sandboxed files outside of sanbox

Post by Scott » Thu Feb 05, 2009 2:27 pm

It would be nice if you could see the files that were created in the sandbox out side of the sandbox.

Example: While running Firefox in the sandbox you download a file to the desktop. This file should appear on your desktop outside of the sandbox with a special icon so that you know it is a sandboxed file.
When you run the file it will automatically run in the sandbox.
If you clear the sandbox the file will disappear.

This would be a great feature to have so that it is easier to interact with programs that are installed into a sandbox. (the startmenu shortcuts and desktop shortcuts would be on your desktop)

Thanks for the great program!

Actually, that doesn't sound half bad as feature requests go, say, even if it were a selectable option limited to files in your Recovery folders, it may make it easier for less tech savvy users to locate & access their downloaded sandboxed content.

I know from the (especially recent) forum posts that some people have had trouble wrapping their head around the "its on the Sandboxed Desktop but where's that compared to the Real Desktop coz I don't see it!") confusion being suffered. :)

Cha-ching! 2c respectfully submitted. :)

sounds like a Quick Recovery contents put on the Desctop and Cut:
so you have a special-looking gray icons of recommended contents.

not sure, but you'd rather make a shortcut or a panel of Quick Recovery IHO

Well, except for the Desktop - everything you would ever want to 'see' would be through Windows Explorer. I don't know if superimposing, or merging folders as the desktop folder can even be done. But what about a switch? Just for experimentation, you can toggle your desktop by flipping the desktop setting in the registry at; [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] and stopping and starting explorer.exe.
Create these four files in each desktop folder (one reg points to the real desktop and the other points to the sandboxed desktop. Windows exports it in hex, but you can edit it normally) - then use the bats to go back and forth. Maybe someone can make a script condensed to one file - (I top out at bats, lol) Then if Tzuk likes it.......

Is the file taskkill.exe present only on XP Pro? I don't see it on my XP Home.

Maybe. On XP Pro the Windows folder is called "WinNT", so I have the file at C:\WINNT\system32\taskkill.exe

That is strange. Mine has always been WinNT :?
Mine's a Gateway PC from 2002. Maybe Microsoft changed that folder name with later versions of XP Pro.
