Configuring TheBat for direct access to its mail box files

Post by eternalbeta » Fri Jan 19, 2007 9:02 am

I'm still new to Sandboxie and I'm afraid that I haven't got much experience configuring ini files so I've looked at the discussions in the forum regarding this topic for OE and Eudora but I still couldn't figure out how to configure TheBat for direct access to mail its box files while in the sandbox.

I got TheBat setup in D:\The Bat!\thebat.exe while the email files of the different email accounts (all from a single user) are in G:\Personal\The Bat\MAIL

So the next step should then be to configure the ini file:

OpenFilePath=thebat.exe,D:\The Bat!\thebat.exe G:\Personal\The Bat\MAIL
OpenKeyPath=thebat.exe,HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT

However, I can't find any reference for Thebat in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ so what to do with the item below, can/should this be omitted as there is no specific reference in this segment?

OpenKeyPath=thebat.exe,HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\...........

Would this be sufficient then for the purpose as the ini file for OE has a lot more lines to it than the two lines I came up with.

Could somebody please give me a hand and shed some light on this issue?

Thanks

OpenFilePath=thebat.exe,D:\The Bat!\thebat.exe G:\Personal\The Bat\MAIL
Shouldn't this be:

Code: Select all

OpenFilePath=thebat.exe,G:\Personal\The Bat\MAIL
:?: (No need to put the executable filename twice.)
I can't find any reference for Thebat in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ so what to do with the item below, can/should this be omitted as there is no specific reference in this segment?
Yes, of course. If TheBat! puts nothing in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE part of the registry, then you shouldn't have to add an exclusion for that.
Would this be sufficient then for the purpose as the ini file for OE has a lot more lines to it than the two lines I came up with.
It's a lot more lines because it's for both OE and for the full Outlook. And they keep their data and settings in different places. So it's really more lines, because it's a two-in-one situation: The one checkbox for "Outlook" actually controls settings for two distinct programs.

Tzuk, thanks very much for your suggestions. TheBat is up and running now with access to its mailbox files outside the sandbox with the following two lines in the ini file:

OpenFilePath=thebat.exe,G:\Personal\The Bat\MAIL
OpenKeyPath=thebat.exe,HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT

If TheBat! puts nothing in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE part of the registry, then you shouldn't have to add an exclusion for that.
Of course, that's logical, I just wasn't sure that I missed something as the other examples which I saw all carried a reference to this part of the registry.
