I was using Altiris SVS for quiet a while, but really got annoyed, that I was able to delete files in the base system with a sandboxed/virtualized application. So I looked for another program and found this wonderful piece of software!!
But I was thinking about some improvements:
- global settings: all sandbox-specific settings - especially all path-variables (ClosedFilePath, OpenFilePath, OpenPipePath,...) and block-variables (BlockDrivers,...) - should also be set in the global settings to make them apply to all sandboxes
- special folders: (I know that some of them are already included. As I mentioned I used Altiris SVS before and these shortcuts were a big help. I would like to use them even with not-sandboxed applications.)
%SYSTEMDRIVE%, %PROGRAMFILES%, %SANDBOX%, %WINDIR%, %FONTS%, %TEMP%
%APPDATA%, %CACHE%, %COOKIES%, %DESKTOP%, %FAVORITES%, %HISTORY%, %MYMUSIC%, %MYPICTURES%, %MYVIDEOS%, %PERSONAL%, %STARTMENU%
%COMMONAPPDATA%, %COMMONDESKTOP%, %COMMONDOCUMENTS%, %COMMONMUSIC%, %COMMONPICTURES%, %COMMONVIDEOS%, %COMMONSTARTMENU%
%SID%, %USER%
- drag & drop: possibility to allow drag & drop to sandboxed applications (something like dragdrop=true/false)
- command-line: option to retrieve the currently sandboxed processes
- sandboxie.ini: no limitation of 500 lines and 1000 charakters
- deleting files: when deleting a file in the base system, Sandboxie should add an entry in a file named deletedfiles.txt (in the directory where the reg hive is stored), instead of creating an empty file with 0 bytes - that would make it easier to see, which files are actually deleted and which are just empty. (As far as I understand, Sandboxie creates an empty file, when deleting a file in the base system with a sandboxed application - I do not understand how it is able to see the difference between a deleted file and an empty file.)
Congratulations to the developers for their effort. I hope that my suggestions will make Sandboxie even better!

Some Feature Requests
Re: Some Feature Requests
My thoughts, as a user of Sandboxie:
"Note that these per-sandbox settings may also appear in the GlobalSettings section. Sandboxie looks for a per-sandbox setting primarily in the section of the file that is dedicated to that particular sandbox, and secondarily in the GlobalSettings section."
Deleted files in the sandbox:
The file creation date is changed to a special magic number for deleted files. In a file properties dialogs, it shows Friday, May 23, 1986, 15:47:02.
Actually, some "fine print" was just pointed-out to me, last week, in regard to this. Look at the list of "Sandbox Settings" and you find underneath the list:SandboxieUser wrote:- global settings: all sandbox-specific settings - especially all path-variables (ClosedFilePath, OpenFilePath, OpenPipePath,...) and block-variables (BlockDrivers,...) - should also be set in the global settings to make them apply to all sandboxes

I think there was a 1000 line limitation with the .ini file, but Tzuk said he was going to increase that due to the number of people who had huge numbers of sandboxes. I assume that has been done, by now, with version 3.SandboxieUser wrote:- sandboxie.ini: no limitation of 500 lines and 1000 charakters

Re: Some Feature Requests
Thanks Paul_K for your quick answer...
global settings: I somehow missed that part in the FAQ. Thanks for the tip!
sandboxie.ini: I hope that the limit is already increased. Because I might become one of the users that could otherwise run into trouble. (I will check that later...)
deleted files: My personal view is, that the way Sandboxie currently handles deleted is not very intuitive. If I browse into the sandboxed folder I will get confused, which files are actually deleted and which are just 0 bytes.
I would recommand to store deleted files in a txt-file somewhere in the sandbox (probably in the directory, where the reghive is stored). By editing the txt-file one could "delete" files or "restore" them, simply by adding or removing the filename in a new line - and browsing in the sandboxed folder would only display 0-byte-files.
drag & drop: I'm a little confused with drag & drop. I can drag files into Winamp, but I can't into VLC. Strange... Is drag & drop usually possible between sandboxed applications? If not, I would like to have an option to enable it.
