Firefox 27 will not open in Sandboxie

Post by catspyjamas » Tue Feb 04, 2014 3:31 pm

I updated firefox to version 27 today and since then I can no longer firefox it to open in sandboxie 4.08. It was opening OK in the previous firefox version I was using (version 26). Firefox will still launch outside of the sandbox OK.

Firefox is my default browser, so I have tried opening it using the sandboxie browser shortcut on the desktop, via the sandboxie GUI ("run web browser"), and by right clicking on firefox and selecting run sandboxed. It will show an instance of firefox.exe in the default sandbox contents after I try and run it sandboxed, but the browser itself never opens. I have deleted the contents of the sandbox and rebooted the computer to no avail.

I am using Vista HP 32bit. I have avast! 9 free and Malwarebytes antimalware PRO running. I should add that my other browsers open fine in sandboxie, just not this latest version of firefox.

Try making a shortcut like this, works for me:

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" explorer.exe "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

Thank-you whiskeyman. Before I saw your reply I tried creating another sandbox (previously I had just the default one) and was able to open FF 27 via the newly created sandbox. I then closed FF and deleted the contents of the new sandbox, and since this I have been able to open Firefox via the default box and by clicking the desktop shortcut that runs the default web browser sandboxed. I'm not quite sure what the earlier hiccup was about, but creating a new sandbox seems to have done something! I am currently posting this on sandboxed FF 27 using the default sandbox. :)

I will post back if the problem recurs.

Sandboxie 4.08 and Firefox 27

Post by MasterTech » Tue Feb 04, 2014 6:52 pm

I'm running XP Home with SP3. After a Firefox update from v26 to v27 today, Firefox will no longer open under Sandboxie. When I click the "Sandboxed Web Browser" icon on my desktop, no homepage shows although Task Manager indicates that Firefox is running as a process, but NOT as a running application. I tried the two suggestions posted earlier on this forum, but neither works. I can still open Firefox un-sandboxed. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have exact same issue, XP Pro SP3, I have tried the two suggestions as well, but neither work. Task Manager does the same for me, shows Firefox running as process, but not as application, Firefox runs fine un-sandboxed.

I spoke too soon. The problem I wrote about above has resurfaced and it appears to be intermittent, though it fails more than it succeeds, both in my default box and newly created sandbox.

After launching, firefox.exe will show up inside the sandbox window but it will not actually open a browser. All of the methods to open firefox sandboxed e.g. desktop shortcut, right clicking on firefox icon, via the Sandboxing GUI all sometimes work but mostly do not. There are no error messages or pop ups. Very strange issue!

(Also I am the original poster - I just decided to make a proper account)

Confirming that I can not open the new FF 27 with Sandboxie 4.08, under Win XP (Pro) SP3.

HOWEVER, I *can* open it under Win7 (Pro) SP1.

FF 26 was running just fine with Sandboxie + XP SP3.

Just adding XP Pro SP3 (32bit) Sandboxie 4.08 seems to work fine with IE.

I get the same result.

Same here with Win7 Pro SP1 (64bit), and FF26 was also running fine with Sandboxie 4.08 + XP Pro SP3 (32bit).

I have Windows 8.1 x64 and I am getting the following errors with paid SB:

SBIE2303 Could not hook SendInput (33, 5)
SBIE2318 DLL initialization failed for 'user32.dll'

The browser crashes giving the error either "to close the browser or restart the browser".

Best regards,

aladdin

I'm seeing the same things except:

(Running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1)

1.) Using the IE quick launch for Sandboxie shortcut for FF (default browser) will cause the firefox.exe to start and load and then the process appears to stall. The cpu process is at 58 % on init but shortly drops out. Hence no FF window appears.

2.) Executing the shortcut normally on the desktop does initiate an instance of FF 27.0, and it appears as it should.

3.) Right-clicking the desktop FF icon and selecting Sandboxie 'Run Sandboxed' does allow the FF process to complete, and a FF window appears as it usually does.

Seems to me the issue is with an unknown change in FF shortcut path from version 26.0 to 27.0. Something is stalling full FF 27.0 execution when the IE Quick Launch feature is used; in this case I did not do a clean install of FF going to version 27.0, but instead used the 'About Firefox' update feature to upgrade to the latest version.

I think the problem lies with a subtle change instituted by Mozilla when upgrading to the latest version. What that change is, do not know atm. It's not Sandboxie, as it is operating as it should.

Could someone investigate this?

W7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, Pentium D 2.8, 3 GB RAM Sandboxie version 4.13.7b Free

I'm wondering why others are having this problem, since Fx 27 is working fine on XP SP3 and SB 4.08 here.

I used the usual built-in update process, but there was a time in the past when I was having trouble, and I downloaded and installed the full Firefox version, over top of itself, and that fixed my problem at that time.

Hi Paul

Same here. As I type, I am on Win 7x64, Firefox 27, and SBIE 4.08. I've checked stuff like browsing, Netflix stream movies, Youtube etc. All works. Seems a bit faster and smoother.

SBIE2205 Error - Firefox v.27 won't open with Sanboxie v4.08

Post by Guest1401 » Wed Feb 05, 2014 8:51 am

Read thru numerous threads, and tried a few options, before finally making this post....so gave an effort before asking for help. Appreciate guidance on how to solve the problem.

Config:
Dell/Intel Dual Core I5
Win7 64bit Home Premium SP1
Sandboxie 4.08 64bit unreg
Firefox 27 (all add-ons disabled)
Kaspersky Pure 9.1.0.1245 (a.b)

- Issue: Similar to several threads in this postings can't get Firefox v27 to open in Sandboxie v4.08
- Symptom: receive error "SBIE2205 Service not implemented: Win32Init.6 (000000AA)"
- Firefox will open on its own unsandboxed
- Chrome v32.0.1700.107m will open in Sandboxie v4.08 no problem
- I have a separate Win8 box with Firefox v26 and it opens no problem in Sandboxie v4.08 (this Win8 box does not have Kaspersky or any antivirus)
- A few things I've tried, but have not fixed the problem: on Win7 box duplicate all Firefox/Sandboxie settings from my Win8 box; on Win7 box disable/uninstall all Firefox v27 add-ons; check that sandboxie is allowed app in Kaspersky
- Thought I might have a Kaspersky<--->Sandboxie compatibility problem, but threads below seem to indicate it's isolated to a Firefox27<--->Sandboxie problem ?
