SBIE2331 Service start failed: [22 / 5] Access is denied.
Hi.
Since I updated to the latest version of Sandboxie (version 3.54 64bit) I keep getting this error message.
I go into services and the service is stopped and I can start it ok but I notice in the 'service type' box it's set to 'manual'. If I set it to 'automatic' and reboot it gets reset to 'manual' again with the service being in the stopped state.
I've not changed any security software since I updated to the latest version, the only security software that's active on this PC is Norton AV 2011 and Windows Defender.
I've not had this problem with previous versions of Sandboxie on this PC. The default box is empty.

The details for that message speculate that the user may be using a User account that does not have the authority to start the service when Windows starts.
Are you using a User or Administrator account?

Hi.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I run this PC as administrator. Last night I tried right clicking Sandboxie Control > properties then selecting run as administrator but on rebooting today Sandboxie Control went back to 'manual' under services and was stopped.
I've just run the compatibility wizard and let it try a fix so I'll see if that works. Like I said in my first post, previous versions worked fine and all I did was my usual update to the newest version of Sandboxie.

If that's literally true, maybe there was a change in Norton? Slim chance, I know, but you could eliminate this possibility by completely disabling Norton for the next boot (perhaps via msconfig after disabling Norton's Tamper Protection).JolietJake wrote:... previous versions worked fine and all I did was my usual update to the newest version of Sandboxie.

Hi.
Latest attempts here.
I uninstalled Sandboxie, rebooted then reinstalled then rebooted again. Checked the Services and it said Sandboxie Control was running and the Start Up Type was Automatic.
I ran my browser Sandboxed and it was fine.
I've just made the dinner, come back and checked Services again and under the Start Up Type it's switched back to manual although the service is still running. No doubt if I reboot the service wont start.
@Mike.
Norton can't be disabled, I've been through their forum for a previous issue I had with something else and they basically say that they've coded Norton this way to stop malware switching it off. They said if they included some way of manually switching Norton off there'd be nothing to stop a malware writer coming up with something that could do the same.
I'm not even sure if Norton has the capability of altering Service Start Up's. I'll check their forums to make sure.
Thanks all.
Edit.
Although the Sandboxie service is running I can't open a sandboxed browser. Pop up says 'could not start Sandboxie Control program.

The service is running yet Sandboxie Control wont start with Windows on boot. I have to manually start it from program files and have to click the UAC to allow it to make changes to this computer despite it being set as 'run as administrator' in the program properties for this user account and for all user accounts. I copied a shortcut to the Start Up folder but that doesn't work either. Off to try the beta.
If that doesn't work where can I get hold of the previous version?
Previously released versions are available here:JolietJake wrote:If that doesn't work where can I get hold of the previous version?

SBIE2313 Could not execute SbieCtrl.exe (740)
WTF?
I have to manually start Sandboxie Control and UAC pops up asking to allow it. If I exit it in the systray and start it again, UAC asks me again. This (Sandboxie Control) used to run from boot or at least all I had to do was click my sandboxed browser shortcut and my browser opened straight away.
I'm now officially lost!

Actually, I don't think Sandboxie Control should be run as admin. Try unchecking "Run as administrator".JolietJake wrote:The service is running yet Sandboxie Control wont start with Windows on boot. Does Sandboxie Control run at start up? Isn't it supposed to?Mike wrote:Actually, I don't think Sandboxie Control should be run as admin. Yes, it should run at startup if you have "When Windows starts" enabled in Sandboxie Control > Configure > Windows Shell Integration. If you're still having problems, you might try unchecking that setting, clicking ok, and then going back in to re-check it. Maybe that'll reset something.JolietJake wrote:Does Sandboxie Control run at start up? Isn't it supposed to?
Right, that's expected behavior when any program is run as admin. But, by default, Sandboxie Control doesn't run as admin and I don't think it needs to.JolietJake wrote:If I exit it in the systray and start it again, UAC asks me again.
I would remove this.JolietJake wrote:I copied a shortcut to the Start Up folder but that doesn't work either.
