can ForceProcess be a full path?

Post by Unknown_User_807 » Tue Jun 05, 2007 6:10 pm

Code: Select all

ForceProcess=outlook.exe
Quick question: can this be a full path, or just the executable's name? because firefox 2.0 and 1.5 both use the name 'firefox.exe'. and although i guess i could just rename the exe, im wondering if its possible or not.

BTW: i tried copying the firefox.exe to the desktop and putting
  • ForceProcess=C:\Documents and Settings\ltb\Desktop\firefox.exe
    • &
    ForceProcess="C:\Documents and Settings\ltb\Desktop\firefox.exe"
and reloaded the config file each time, no luck.

any thoughts?

earlier i wrote:...although i guess i could just rename the exe...
yeah, just confirmed. renaming the exe does the trick. but i've delt with some applications before where that could be a problem. For instance:

A)
  1. copy the firefox.exe file to the desktop as is
  2. run it
    no problem
B)
  1. copy the firefox.exe file to the desktop
  2. rename it to firefox2.exe
  3. run it
    problem: cannot load dll
Again, this isnt very practicle, but its certainly not impossible to happen (and with some small applications it may even be likely, i dunno). Thats why i was wondering if its even possible for a direct path of ForceProcess, because you never know how someone will use your program (im not using it like that, but i'd think it would be best to program as many fixes as possible)

I see you're trying very hard to get someone to answer your question. :P

No, ForceProcess does not accept full paths. But you know this already. You tried it, and it didn't work.

well it was going intentionally ignored, but my point was asking if maybe i was doing it wrong as that was just "by the seat of my pants" guess. but thanks for the reply. although i dont know the mechanics behind it, i've seen other programs that can use full paths to identify applications in this kind of situation. any thoughts of implimentation maybe after the next few releases when you have time for new features?

keep up the good work! :D

I don't have any plans to do that. It's not necessarily complex, but neither are a million other small features.

My suggested workaround for you is to create a desktop icon which launches

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" "C:\Program Files\Other Firefox\Firefox.exe"
