Chrome Crashes

Post by fvtchrome » Mon Sep 28, 2015 11:41 am

SB 5.04
Windows 8.1 x64
Bitdefender

When I run chrome in sandbox and try and download something or try to navigate to the settings tab chrome stops responding. Is there any workaround? Happened with previous versions, too.

We haven't seen this happen in Chrome is under any OS. First, I'd try to disable BitDefender to see if that improves it. Does this happen with other browsers?

Internet Explorer works fine from what I tested. You can't really disable Bitfender other than uninstalling. I already tried and disable active control however this didn't help.

Unfortunately, we're are not seeing this in any MS OS with Chrome and SBIE 5.04. It must be something related to Bitdefender. Or, a do a reinstall of Chrome.

I already reinstalled Chrome. I might uninstall bitdefender and run everything sandboxed. I will report back if that solved the issue. Thanks for your replies so far!

Yes, let us know if it turns of to be BitDefender. So we can look into it more.

My Chrome, version 45.0.2454.101 m, is slow to completely open prompting a "not responding" at the top of the window or once open and being used it becomes slow prompting the "not responding" message or completely crashes. Restarting my computer doesn't help. I'm using Sandboxie Version 5.04 - 64 bit on Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Security programs being used are Emsisoft Internet Security_Version 10.0.0.5641, SUPERAntiSpyware Premium_Version 6.0.1206 (realtime turned off) and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware_Version 2.1.8.1057 (just for scanning). Everything worked fine yesterday, Monday 9/28. My other browsers work fine. I am using Firefox to submit this post on to the forum. My other browser is Opera, functioning as it's supposed to. Thanks for your help.

Have tried opening Chrome outside of SBIE? If it works okay out of SBIE, check to see if there is a stuck update...or an update available... Any AV tool bars installed?

I'd also start by turning off some AV and then opening Chrome (once you confirmed everything is okay outside of SBIE) then start turning then on one by one. Maybe one of those products updated something....?

I have not seen any problem when downloading a file in Chrome when Sandboxed. However I can confirm that when uploading a file, Chrome crashes! I run Windows 7 with latest update.

Hi. I want to join the club on this one. Windows 10, Sandboxie 5.04. One in ten times when I start Waterfox I get this message
https://up1.ca/#jzbojhBx_GHL5LcthXI4zA
Seven out of ten times when I start Portable Chrome, I get a very similar message. Sandboxie then tells me the program has crashed.

Any ideas?

Can't comment on Waterfox or portable versions of chrome, as we don't test those.

I did a search about Chrome crashing in Windows 10. It appears there are issues preventing Chrome and Win 10 from playing nice. All the articles I've read refer to Windows build 10525. I have build 10240 installed and I'm experiencing the same problems. Until Microsoft and Google have a brainstorming session many people will have this problem and be upset or uninstall Chrome and use another browser.

I have a slightly different Chrome issue than noted here.

I've never been able to get it to sandbox consistently on any SBIE version (including latest beta) on any iteration of Win 10 x64.

Essentially I get a sporadic SBIE2224 Sandboxed program has crashed: chrome.exe when opening the browser sandboxed either forced or via start.exe. I can get numerous clean starts then a crash but on other occasions it just crashes on first run after booting an is unusable thereafter. There seems to be no different machine or user behaviour contributing to the inconsistencies.

Anyway, this is not my first rodeo, so have tried disabling then uninstalling plug-ins, running in virgin default sandbox with clean install of Chrome and adding chrome.exe to leader and then lingering (not at the same time!) in case it is a hangover from a previous dodgy closedown. I have no other security software installed getting in the way and from what I can see nothing else is injecting into the browser or SBIE processes. The RAM is identical with a clean start and a crash.

Looking a the activities in the sandbox it appears that when things go well forced the launch order seems to be chrome.exe, SandboxirRpcEs.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe, chrome.exe then the browser launches.

When it does not go well the order is chrome.exe, SandboxirRpcEs.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe, werfault.exe then the 2224 message and everything in the sandbox gets stuck. Only terminate programmes will cause any change.

Same for unforced sandbox launches but obviously start.exe invoked the sandboxing process.

I appreciate there may be overarching Chrome on Win 10 issues but this only happens when sandboxed for me. If it just didn't work it might be better but the inconsistency is driving me nuts so any advice, workarounds etc. I'd be delighted to hear.

Thanks
Chris

In testing, Chrome is my go-to browser. I haven't seen any crashing related to SBIE (and seldom outside of SBIE). I know that Chrome can be a pain at times, but nothing recently directly related to sBIE. I do have a few plug ins installed, but nothing major.

This is for all versions of Windows for which I test, XP-10 (32 & 64)

But if you have crash info (dump files, error messages) etc, please post them.
