Okay....Thanks
when I see "Not Responding" on downloads when not sandbox'd.....I'll report.
Feels like memory hiccup when sandbox'd.
Terminate All Programs always yields in-tact, non-corrupt download.
IDK......................Thanks

forgot....Norton Security Suite v22.5.x as provided by Comcast that is supported is essentially the same under the hood as retail Norton Security v22.5.x that is not supported.

I did a lot of tweaking with Norton. I would make a change, and it would work for a while, then something else would break. So I gave up.

No worries. Invincea is #1 ACES in my book. I was simply noting that Norton Security Suite v22.5 as offered by Comcast is retail Norton Security v22.5.
Norton simplified product portfolio Sept 2014 > https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/n ... new-norton
To facilitate legacy Norton support for W10. Norton Security v22 was folded into legacy Norton.
https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/p ... windows-10
Hence, legacy NAV/NIS/N360/NSS current v22.5.5.15 = Norton Security v22.5.5.15. License terms and password safe storage vary.
Under the hood legacy Norton v22.5.5.15 = new Norton v22.5.5.15
No worries. While I'm friendly towards Norton...., I'm married to Sandboxie.

@BJM

:) That's great to hear. I indeed do have that Comcast / Norton 360 product on 2 of my home computers (MacPro and a Win 10 Box) and on the Win 10 box, it rolls right along with SBIE thus far. It's odd for sure.

Head scratch, 15 test downloads no issue......two hours later all test downloads = Not Responding.
I can randomly reproduce downloads = Not Responding sanbox'd.
I cannot reproduce downloads = Not Responding not sandbox'd.
I'll retire to my quiet place now......, to ponder variables.
Thanks
Cheers

Those are THE worst type of IT issues. Random, unexplainable = Migraine.

I'd say about 90% of the time Chrome hangs on the first download either after a system reboot or a long period of system inactivity. After that, the frequency of hangs goes down to 50%.

Anyway, I installed Firefox 43.0.4 x64 just for kicks on my Windows 8.1 x64 real machine. Tweaked a few minor things like the start page, importing Chrome bookmarks, enabling do not track, download location, and then set it to run forced in the same sandbox as Chrome. When I then tried to download for the first time (SandboxieInstall32-507-4.exe), Firefox stopped responding...

Well, the first thing I would suggest is to delete the contents of the sandbox.

I have the exact same situation on a second comp. Anyway, I was refurbishing this one and still the same problem. But after updating my graphics driver all is now perfectly fine - four days now and not a single hang on downloads. All of the sites that were giving me a hang, no longer do.

I can only suspect that at least with Firefox, the problem may stem from OffMainThreadCompositing when used with an outdated driver. You can toggle layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled to false in about:config to test some of the problematic downloads.

Hello JoeHood,
Help me grasp why OMTC disabled may help. Admitting, I had to google OMTC. So, totally in the dark. Cursory google read suggests OMTC as enhancement. I've toggled OMTC false. I'll report observes. Note: downloads that invoke Firefox Not Responding are stubbornly random. Thanks

Well remember that OMTC is only a suspect at this point. Anyway, OMTC is a layered form of rendering and involves the UI as well, particular in animations. OMTC is relatively new, so an outdated driver may not have the required technology.

In my case and as far as I have read here in this thread, all of our downloads are completing successfully. But the browser (Chrome/Firefox) is freezing at the end of the download. At the end of the download, there are animation and UI changes with both browsers. This most likely all works fine outside of Sandboxie.

Sandboxie introduces an additional UI change with the immediate recovery box and animation with the flashing frame. So we are seeing the freeze when sandboxed, and because that transition is now layered something is not being interpreted correctly probably with the driver. There may be a form of cache also with OMTC to explain why the first try at a download is the most likely to show the freeze and subsequent downloads fare better.

Thanks JoeHood. I gave "user_pref("layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled", false)" a try last night with no luck. Firefox x64 froze on the first download. Kind of ironic that the Sandboxie installers are typically problematic for me. Chrome is hanging as I type this after trying to download 5.07.5.

Sorry to hear that Nick. That was the only setting I could think of working backwards from the graphics driver. Back to the drawing board.
