Sandboxed programs have no icons in the system tray

Post by AliveNoMore » Sat Jul 11, 2015 4:26 am

I installed some optional updates last night and now the sandboxed programs do not display icons in the system tray. Am I the only one?
Sandboxie is latest stable release, OS is Windows 8.1 x64.

It's becoming annoying that every once in a while something breaks with Sandboxie.

No response from anyone. I see support is nonexistent.

I think this, along with the previous months filled with incompetence on Invincea's part, is my cue to abandon this product as it is slowly becoming more trouble than it's worth. It's just sad.

I would remove SBIE and reinstall the Beta v 5.01. The forum is the Support for the SBIE product. As per the http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?RegisterSandboxie and unfortunately, individual technical support is not guaranteed. We try and answer as many questions as possible, but usually fellow forum members are more than willing to help if they can.

Your post could turn into a guessing game. ie. What kind of updates? Firefox? Video Card? Mouse Software? Windows Updates? Antivirus updates? You might be more specific.
Also in the future you can save grief by creating a drive image before installing software updates. If they don't work out, you can get back to where you were before in a minute or two. Then update one at a time and see which one is really breaking something.

1. I guess it's my fault for not specifying what kind of updates I meant. They were Windows optional updates.
2. I had no issues with any other application, only Sandboxie.
3. I'm not going to create a drive image just because some developer somewhere can't be bothered to fix his software. Recently Sandboxie made me jump through hoops to make it run correctly, hence why I said it's more trouble than it's worth. I do consider myself a computer geek/nerd so I don't mind tweaking software but even I have my threshold.
4. I already uninstalled Sandboxie so my problem is solved.
5. Wouldn't you know it, another issue: I still have the "Run Sandboxed" entry in my context menu, even though I restarted after the uninstallation. Apparently Sandboxie is the program that just keeps on giving, even after being removed.

I'm not sure I'll want to bother with Sandboxie anytime soon, although my curiosity could get the better of me in a few months after a few/several versions have been released, and I just might decide to install it and see how it would perform. No promises though.

Check your Registry for the following keys, and delete them if found:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\sandbox
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\sandbox

OR, save this as a .reg file and then double-click it:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Remove one of the 'Run Sandboxed' entries from the Registry
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\sandbox]

;Remove the other 'Run Sandboxed' entry from the Registry
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\sandbox]
