Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
Moderator: Barb@Invincea
Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
Windows Version - Vista SP2 32bit
Firefox - v.49.0.1
Sandboxie - v.5.14
Avast Antivirus Free version
Windows Firewall
Firefox opens in Sandboxie, appears to function correctly, but will not access the Internet. No error messages.
Firefox does access the Internet when not sandboxed.
Internet Explorer does access the Internet when sandboxed.
This stareted after I updated Firefox and Sandboxie to the newest versions from previous current versions.
Any advice will be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
try again after deleting sandbox content. and check settings which program can access the web. otherwise it could also a mismatch between avast and sandboxie.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
Thank you for your suggestions.
Sandboxie is set to delete contents when closed. I did manually delete contents to make sure all was deleted but the problem remains.
Sandboxie settings for Internet access says "All programs can access the Internet".
Avast Free on this computer has three components: Web Shield, File Shield and Software Updater. With all of these disabled the problem remains.
If the problem is being caused by Avast I suppose it could persist even with everything disabled but I thought it was worth a try.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
Interesting:
Opera performs as expected in Sandboxie, no Internet access problem.
While Opera is running in Sandboxie, if I "right-click/Run Sandboxed" the icon for Firefox, it then runs in Sandboxie and has no problem accessing the Internet.
If I close Opera, Firefox continues to perform correctly within Sandboxie.
Perhaps this info will be of use to anyone who tries to help.

Can you right click "Firefox" under Sbie, select "Resource Access" then check for any restrictions related to Internet access?
Another option is to right click your Sandbox "default box" in my case, select "Sandbox Settings", scroll down to "Restrictions", "Internet Access" and make sure firefox is not in there.

I installed Avast and noticed firefox is not having any issues with accessing Internet. Seems the default settings works in my case.
Let us know what you find with the restrictions.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
rem1968, try running Firefox in a new default settings sandbox. You can create one in:
Sandboxie control>Sandbox>Create new sandbox. Dont copy settings from existing sandboxes.

Every item listed under "Resource Access" where it says "The below list applies to" has firefox.exe in the scroll box with nothing appearing in the area where you can add, edit or remove items.
"Internet Access" says "All programs can access the Internet".

I created the new sandbox as suggested, Firefox opens and appears to run correctly but will not access the Internet

Are you encountering issues with other browsers as well?

No. Opera 36 and Internet Explorer 9 both access the Internet while running in Sandboxie.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
Confirm the issue.
It is for sure a Vista problem.
When e10s is enabled (FF49, with no addons,or a single one compatible with e10), I get the same error that plugin container is crushed ( Flash plugin disabled ).
If e10s is disabled ( due to incompability with the addons ), FF works as it should. But if I enable the flash plugin, then again plugin container is crashed.
Vista x86, no A/V or any other security softwear installed.
No problem with Sandboxie 5.14 on Win 7 or 10 on my other systems.
I also test previus versions with FF49, with the same results.
Also new sandboxes are created with default settings with no solution.
I returned to FF48.2.
Please test it by yourself and I hope for fix.

Firefox 48.2 works as expected and can access the Internet from Sandboxie.
As you pointed out, the newer version of Firefox is what is causing the problem.
Thank you.

I tested with Windows 7 and " Firefox 49.0.1 and it works correctly. The issue must be related the " Vista SP2 32bit". I suggest updating the OS then trying again.

Re: Firefox cannot access Internet in Sandboxie
While downgrading to Firefox 48 will work for a while, upgrading to Win 7 appears to be the best solution.
Since this is not a problem with Sandboxie itself i consider this problem to be satisfactorily diagnosed and solved.
Thanks to all who replied.
