Immediate Recovery TOO immediate

While I love the idea of this feature, whenever I dl a file to a location I want to automatically recover from, I get prompted to do so BEFORE the file is finished downloading, resulting in either an error message or multiple prompts.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I have not noticed this behavior with Firefox or IE. Can you think of any particular adds-on or download managers that may be causing this?

Hmmm - I can't think of any - also, I don't use a download manager either....

i have also noticed something similar, but only on firefox. the download manager builtin to firefox will create a temporary file in the download location, then rename/recreate it when the file has finished

example, you download the file 10.http.sav (filename from a speedtest site) and it creates a 0b file (placeholder) called 10.http.sav, while simultaniously creating a 10.http.sav.part which it downloads into, once the download is done, the 0b file gets replaced by the .part

this MAY be what he is referring to, however it is a similar problem which should be put into sbie's ignore list, if it has one for immediate recovery because, the initial file can not be moved (and its not useful anyway) so it always will fail, however after it completes, the immediate recovery finds the final file, and works perfectly

I did test with Firefox and it went well. Is there anything special I have to do to activate this download manager?

No, just d/l a file, and taa daa, you accessed the download manager, also i should mention, the guy that started this thread, (mah) this was his last post, he left after this thread, so we will never know whether he got the problem fixed, or simply stopped using Sandboxie.

winXP-SP2, Opera v9.20, SandBoxIE v2.86. No d/l managers.

I do not start the SBIE Control on windows boot, I only run it when I want to recover some files (so that the sandboxed browser is already running when I start the SBIE Control).

The Immediate Recovery dialog pops-up right after the SBIE Control's icon appears in the tray.
This dialog pops-up as many times as I have the downloaded and saved files during my Opera session - each pop-up in one second (1/60th of a minute) after another.
Very annoying...
I had to disable the Immediate Recovery for now.

I have the same problem using Firefox. Does anyone have a way to stop these endless prompts when downloading multi-part files?

no, there is nothing special to do to activate the download manager, though you may have to download a large enough file (the 10mb file was just barely big enough at high speed internet, try a large download, such as a linux iso (heres a list of debian mirrors, however any large download should work) http://www.us.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/

if you would like to have the download manager popup automatically, goto firefox options, then click on the main "tab" (not really a tab is it?) downloads are in the center and there is a option "show downloads window when downloading a file" additionally, you can show it by clicking tools>downloads, or ctrl+j

Yes, my problem was described/experienced by others here as well I see now - the .part problem.

Whenever immediate recovery is eligible, the sandboxed application queues a message to tell Sandboxie Control to do something about it. If there is no Sandboxie Control, the messages remain on that queue, until Sandboxie Control is there to handle them. It's probably a good idea for me to change Sandboxie Control so it doesn't handle anything already in that queue, when it starts.

Finally I can reproduce this, but only on Windows Vista. I'll take a closer look into it soon.

i have experienced this on windows2000 as well as xp (and you say it happens on vista as well) so that means all windows os's which mean anything *spits on 9x/me*

be sure when your testing that you use a large download file, as i've noticed it does not always happen on small files (but sometimes does)

mysteryman, you're right. I tried with a fresh installation of Firefox and I got that on XP too. I think back then, my Firefox was configured to save the .part files to some other folder, and then move them to Desktop.

Anyway, this isn't a Vista-only problem, that's for sure. Firefox is really creating the .part files on the desktop folder, so Immediate Recovery was doing what it should, saying that a new file was created in a recoverable folder and if you'd like to recover it.

I did the only thing I could do: make Immediate Recovery ignore .part files.

I also fixed the problem with Sandboxie Control processing all the queued Immediate Recovery popups as soon as it starts. Now, it simply drops these popups.
