Sandboxie gives these 2 messages when opening IE10 sandboxed: "SBIE2302 (33,5)" and "SBIE2318 failed for 'user32dll'. Then a small panel appears saying:
#Internet Explorer#
"Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is found."
Then it begins a scan on a smaller panel, and this keeps repeating until I click on "Terminate All Programs" because after closing the browser the sandbox does not empty by itself when having IE10 in it now.
IE10 still works fine unsandboxed. Opera 12.17 (my default browser) also works fine, sandboxed and unsandboxed. Reason I can post this whining here...
Firefox gave the same error messages when sandboxed plus "Couldn't load XPCOM" in both sandboxed and unsandboxed mode.
I did various resets to earlier restore points -which I made on the way to get this new laptop to look and behave as I like it- and IE10 at his point still evokes the same error messages in Sandboxie, but trying to re-install Firefox now gives this message halfway:
"Install was interrupted. Click on OK to continue." When I do that Opera opens sandboxed to the Mozilla web page with the same message and a download button. But since the page is sandboxed that will do no good.
The first of the series of restore points I had was right after downloading/installing the 187 essential Windows 8 updates. This is not even for the 8.1 version yet in which Microsoft restored the Start button after public outcrying... let alone for the more recent Windows 8.1 Update 1.
But in the restore point version I'm using now I don't see that first "Important Updates" restore point anymore, only the ones made after that, which all give the same problem. I know from having restored to that very first point once before that IE10 still worked fine then. I still had nothing on my laptop yet but the factory and updated Windows 8 state.
I wonder if by restoring to a later point -closer to now- that first restore point will appear again... if so, I'll install Opera and Firefox on that virginal version, and see if that works fine, If so, I'll make a restore point. Then I'll install Sandboxie, and see if that works OK, if so, another restore point. Etc., checking every time if IE10 and Firefox still work fine after installing a new program before making a new restore point. That way I'll find out what program is causing these issues.
I did not do that checking before making restore points, assuming IE10 and Firefox worked fine sandboxed and unsandboxed as I never had these issues using xp and Windows 7.
I expect a Skype call later today, so I won't mess with this now, as I can't use my laptop during the over an hour long restore operation each one takes.
