Windows Update Seems to Have Messed Up Sandboxie

Post by peternm22 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:26 pm

Just installed todays updates on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit system, and now Sandboxie doesn't want to work. I wasn't using the latest version, so I downloaded 3.76 and cleared off the old installation and settings, yet it still won't run. I get a slew of error messages:

Anyone else have this problem? Anything I can do to fix it? Sandboxie was working just fine yesterday, I come home and install updates and now this happens.

Thanks.

Just restored an image of my system from a few days ago and Sandboxie works again. I'm going to install the Windows updates one at a time to narrow down the problem.

And we have a winner! Update KB2813170 is the one that is preventing Sandboxie from running. I tried to do some research on the update, but it's far beyond my understanding.

Anyone else have trouble with update KB2813170?

I usually wait for a few days before doing the updates. Thanks for the heads up.

From what I understand, the new version 4 beta works quite a bit differently than previous versions. I may have to look into upgrading to version 4 once I read up a bit more on it.

@ peternm22 - I have the 3.76 verison of Sandboxie and have just updated Windows 7 (the update in question too), what should I try to get the error message?

I and some colleagues have the same problem too. Sandboxie failed to start after today's windows updates.

Bellzemos, I didn't have to do anything special to get the error messages. After rebooting from the updates, the Sandboxie icon in the system tray was flashing an exclamation mark.

Gashtaan, good to know its not just me. Are you guys running any other software on the systems that may conflict? It appears that not everyone is having this problem, so maybe there is something about our configurations that are causing the problem.

All is well here on my PC too (Windows 7 x64 SP1 with all the latest updates & Sandboxie v3.76).

@ peternm22 - what else do you use for computer security (AV etc.)?

I only use two other pieces of security software on my system. Hostsman (which updates the hosts file with various websites to block, I don't think this could cause a problem) and Eset NOD32 version 4.xxx (not sure the exact version).

I didn't mention it in my original post, but I am using experimental protection in Sandboxie.

There have been a few other posts on the forum with similar problems since I posted this thread (most seeming to occur after they used Windows update), and one user has confirmed that the same update breaks their Sandboxie install too.

Let me know if there is any additional I can provide to help debug.

Fred

Uninstalled the update all back to nornal.

I suppose I shall wait till the big brains work this out.
