Any Windows service dependencies?

Post by Unknown_User_542 » Fri May 11, 2007 12:05 am

I run Win 2k SP4 fully patched. Have been experiencing several of the problems already mentioned here when trying to run FF 2.0.0.3 sandboxed. Without going into the details of the combination of problems I have experienced can someone please tell me if Sandboxie is dependent on any Windows services? If so, which ones? Thank you in advance. Really miss having Sandboxie functional on my PC for the times I feel like taking a trip to the Darkside. Older vers. worked well, now they will no longer work either.

None special that I can think of. Sure it expects some basic services (like RpcSs, DcomLaunch, PlugPlay) but I think even Windows would work without those.

Thank you tzuk. Is it possible that it requires Protected Storage or possibly Remote Registry Service? I have these as well as several other services disabled. None of the ones you mentioned due to other requirements.
Love the program\concept. I am also pretty sure it may be some of my own "tweaking" that is causing my problem(s). The previous 2 vers. worked flawlessly. But now I experience an "unable to delete registry hive [xxxxxxxxx]" on closing Sandboxie. Also an "unable to move folder out of the way" when attempting to delete Sandboxies contents. And an error pointing at the new driver. But only on occasion. FF is set as my default browser but I am unable to launch it from the Sandboxie quick launch icon. If I right click on FF`s quick launch icon I have 2 instances of "Run Sandboxed" appearing but only one functions. The other gives me the driver error.
I only run FF 2.0.0.3 in the box when visiting the Darkside  of the Net.
A fresh install of my OS is coming soon. Perhaps I will have better luck then.

Protected Storage is used by shouldn't be required. Remote Registry Service, no. In any case, it's easy enough to try, no? Just start the service for a second and see if Sandboxie works better?

Someone else is experiencing the same error, so please see that other topic:

The other gives me the driver error.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. But if it's the popup that says "Messages from Sandboxie Driver", you should really read the title as "Errors encountered in sandboxed programs and reported through the driver." Maybe this makes it a little less scary. :)

Have tried that. Set both to automatic then even restarted my machine before installing Sandboxie. Experienced the same problems.

Have read it and will delve a little deeper into it as time permits.

There are 2 "run sandboxied" in the menu when I right click for instance on my FF quick launch icon.

Took the plunge. Reformatted and installed XP64 on my tower. Sandibox 64 is working without a hitch. :D
