5.12 (W7x64): IE crashes after every start [SOLVED]
With sandboxie 5.12 the Internet Explorer closes 13 seconds after it is started – every time. Outside of sandboxie there is no problem with it. I don' have testet the 12RC. The last installed version before was beta 5.11.10 and it was ok.
I don't have this version anymore and I will test the final version before (5.10).
EDIT: There is no problem with version 5.10. I had installed 5.12 after windows update and I thought it could be to do with it. But this is not the reason. It's the 5.12 itself.

Now, try to downgrade to 5.11.10 and feedback if still working fine.technoid wrote:...The last installed version before was beta 5.11.10 and it was ok.
Try this links:I don't have this version anymore and I will test the final version before (5.10).

Thank you for you reply, but 5.11.10 was a beta. The link you have posted doesn't include beta versions. It is only the history of final versions. I have taken the 5.10 x64 and the problem with Internet Explorer on Windows 7 x64 doesn't exist with it.

I see, it's a regression and occurred probably in 5.11.11.technoid wrote:Thank you for you reply, but 5.11.10 was a beta. The link you have posted doesn't include beta versions. My off the wall guess is the new QWAVE template that's 'defaulted' with 5.12. Disable that and things might return to normal. I'm sure I'm wrong though. I always am.

No, the default template will only be set when you create a new sandbox without copying existing sandbox settings. But even if set, it doesn't have a side effect on any apps. The template will simply allow any apps to have direct access to qwave and not all apps are using qwave.Syrinx wrote:My off the wall guess is the new QWAVE template that's 'defaulted' with 5.12. Doubtful QWave has anything to do with it. As for the beta change log. here. http://beta.sandboxie.com and there wasn't anything from 5.10 onwards or before that would affect IE.Syrinx wrote:My off the wall guess is the new QWAVE template that's 'defaulted' with 5.12. Try a different browser to see how things run. Also try resetting IE back to original state.
Re: 5.12 (W7x64): Internet Explorer crashes after every star
I have the absolutely same issue with Internet Explorer after an update from sandboxie 5.11.1 to 5.12 on another Windows 7 x64 machine. This machine doesn't have any security software and the last windows updates on this machine are from May 2016.Craig@Invincea wrote:... there wasn't anything from 5.10 onwards or before that would affect IE. So it must be an unwanted/unknown change from 5.11.x to 5.12 that effects the Internet Explorer in sandboxie 5.12. Maybe an issue with compilation? This issue doesn't exist after a downgrade to 5.10 and is also back with an update to 5.12 or a clean installation of 5.12 (sandboxes cleared, uninstall and .ini deleted, folders deleted)! The system was rebooted after every step.
The issue with sandboxie 5.12 and Internet Explorer does also happen, if the IE is started with am empty start site (about:blank) and all browser history is deleted, which I have set for every exit of IE. Could it be, that there is an incompatibility between 5.12 and an IE-addon? I'm using the IE tracking protection with lists from EasyList, PrivacyChoice and TRUSTe which are auto updated on every IE start. ActiveX filter is also on. But I repeat, this is/was not a problem until version 5.11.10.

Do you have any DMP files?
If this is repeatable, submit a Procmon log.

Re: 5.12 (W7x64): Internet Explorer crashes after every star
Yes, Curt, it is always repeatable. There are no dump files. IE closes without any notice.
What do you mean with Procmon log? I can not find this in process monitor from sysinternals, but I have done 2 recourcemon files with sandboxie 5.10 and 5.12 (only start IE with blank site). There are many differences. Some entries are missing and different in 5.12. (IPC, WinCls and one "?" in IPC).
Where can I upload this zip file?

Re: 5.12 (W7x64): Internet Explorer crashes after every star
Steps
Close any programs that are not needed.
Run Procom (not sandboxed)
and then try and fire up program(s) that you're having issues with(sandboxed of course).
Let the error, issue, problem happen/not load/etc
stop capturing events in Procmon (under file)
then Save the results (under file, make sure "save all events it ticked") and
save in PML format.
These files can be large, so post somewhere we can download and look (link)
OR (Please zip them!) and send to Support@sandboxie.com

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sys ... 96645.aspx procmon
You can use dropbox, box, onedrive, googledrive, etc. Just give us a link to share the location.
If you zip them, you may be able to email them to support@sandboxie.com

Thank you for your posts, Curt and Craig.
I have found the issue. It doesn't exist, if "Actual Windows Manager" (from actualtools.com) isn't running. It's a new incompatibility between IE in sandboxie 5.12 and AWM. Do you still need the procmon log?

Re: 5.12 (W7x64): Internet Explorer crashes after every star
I decided to upgrade from 5.11.10 to 5.12 tonight and found a similar issue with PaleMoon and AWM 8.7 on Win7 x64 (I do not have the template enabled). [Blocking the folder path for AWM to prevent it from injecting the dll solved the browser vanishing with no alerts or crash boxes when opening web multiple pages around the same time] However in addition to that I encountered other (similar) issues with a couple of other programs vanishing after launching them or taking up unusually large %'s of the cpu where before they didn't. I just reinstalled 5.11.10 for now. Hopefully I'll have some more free time to do proper testing and isolation/procmon logs etc sometime in the next couple of weeks. Sadly I don't have the energy to experiment more atm. =(

Re: 5.12 (W7x64): Internet Explorer crashes after every star
I have always enabled the AWM template but it doesn't help with 5.12.
Off topic:
AWM causes massive performance degradations if some 32-bit applications are running on my system (intel xeon with 4 real + 4 HT cores). I have to manage the using of CPU cores with rules in AWM for this applications and set rules, that this applications can only use the cores 0-3 (4-7 are disabled). This is done for Live Mail, Pale Moon (32-bit), the 32-bit-IE (C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe) and other applications and also for the Windows Explorer. I had found this issue some month before and contact with the actual tools support. Therefore I'm using a custom version of AWM 8.8.3. which has registry keys for setting the core affinity for itself and Windows Explorer. But this will not eliminate the performance issues with AWM completely. There are no performance degradations, if AWM is not running or if I do change the Bios setting for using only 2 real and 2 HT cores for the whole system. The Actual Tools support can not solve this issue with AWM.
