Skip Sandboxie selection window as default behavior

Post by PiwPi » Fri Dec 21, 2012 9:50 am

When you right click an .exe or shortcut and click Run Sandbox it pops up the selection window but I only use one Sandbox so I don't need to see this window. I know I can click Ctrl to skip it but is there a way to turn off the selection window or add an option to disable it so I don't have to do this everytime?

As far as I know, there's nothing built-in that will do that.
And what follows has not been approved by anyone, so you would be in uncharted territory.

There are 2 "Run Sandboxed" commands in the Registry, and both are set to ask you which sandbox to use:
(NOTE: These are how they appear in XP 32-bit. The program path might differ in some other OS version - possibly in 64-bit systems)

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\sandbox\command
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:__ask__ "%1" %*

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\sandbox\command
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:__ask__ "C:\WINNT\explorer.exe" "%1"

I've never read about anyone changing those commands, so that they specify DefaultBox, but it might be possible.

Something like:
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:DefaultBox "%1" %*

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:DefaultBox "C:\WINNT\explorer.exe" "%1"

You would be trying this at your own risk.
I've never done it, and I don't know if a future update to Sandboxie would change them back again.
And of course, you can't pick a different sandbox in the future (if you create another one) without changing these back again.

So you would definitely want to export the current content of those Registry Keys before making changes, so they can be merged back into the Registry.
If you try it, let us know how it works out.

Well I'm using Win7 64 so I'm guessing it would be different. It seems pretty risky also. Maybe the developer can add an option for this in a future version. Thanks for the suggestions.
