Question about "Parent - Child Control"

Post by Rasheed187 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 5:14 pm

Hi,

I noticed that when I launch a program from the sandbox, its parent will be explorer.exe, but when I choose "Run Sandboxed" from the context menu, the parent is "non existent". Does this all really matter, I suppose that the protection stays the same? :?:

The non-existant parent was Start.exe. It runs for just a second and then ends. The parent of Start.exe was Control.exe (or Explorer.exe or cmd.exe or whatever -- depends how you launch Start).

But I wonder, how is it possible for SBIE to provide protection even when sandboxed apps are launched via explorer.exe? You would think that start.exe/control.exe should always be involved? :?:

Why would you think that. When you run a sandboxed command prompt and then run Notepad, execution does not go through Start.exe. Start.exe is something you use to tell Sandboxie that you want sandboxing for some program in particular, but that does not mean Sandboxie can't apply sandboxing automatically when it thinks it's appropriate.

OK thanks, so it´s the driver or service that´s taking control over the sandboxed folder. I´m no expert but I just wondered about this stuff.
