ESET NOD32 AV program update causing SBIE issues [SOLVED]

Post by Page42 » Sun Aug 06, 2017 2:33 pm

Running Windows 7x64 Ultimate
SBIE 5.21.2 (64-bit)
Chrome 60.0.3112.90 (64-bit)
ESET NOD32 10.1.219.0

Since upgrading ESET program version from 10.0.390.0 to 10.1.219.0, two problems have occurred with SBIE.
These problems were not present with the aforementioned previous ESET version.

Problem #1, SandboxieCrypto.exe does not shut down when I close Chrome, and contents of Chrome sandbox cannot be deleted, either automatically or manually via the SBIE Control. I can stop the process manually via Task Manager.

Problem #2, email program Outlook 2010 gives error message "The connection to the server was interrupted". Even when I disable ESET email checking, the error happens, until I stop forcing SBIE protection of Outlook 2010. When SBIE does not force Outlook 2010, then email client works fine.

I have tried toggling the SBIE software compatibility setting for Outlook from on to off, to no avail.

As a side note, I have this same set up on a 2nd 7x64 machine in which I did NOT upgrade ESET, and neither of these issues exist.

Hello Page42 ,

I tested a fresh installation of ESET Antivirus on a VM with Sandboxie Beta and I was not able to reproduce the issues you reported.
Are you using any specific set of settings with the AV? Are there any other security programs involved?

For Chrome : Are there any extensions installed?

For both Chrome and Outlook:
Does the issue happen in a new Sandbox with default settings?

Do other applications launch fine in your Sandbox? Did you delete the contents after updating the antivirus?

Barb.-

Hello Barb,

Your response demonstrated just how complicated troubleshooting these issues can be!
Fortunately (and surprisingly) I have witnessed a turn of events after "repairing" ESET AV via Control Panel Remove or Change a Program.
I opted for repair, and so far all is back to normal.
My next step was going to be Remove, because I've said since I installed Sandboxie seven years ago, if another program conflicts with SBIE, it has to go, because SBIE stays!

Thank you for testing a fresh installation of ESET Antivirus on a VM with Sandboxie Beta. Your efforts are appreciated.

Hello Page42 ,

Glad to hear it is working now.

I will mark this thread as resolved, but please feel free to update it should the issue re-occur.

Regards,
Barb.-
