Ok, maybe i am a bit specific with my needs but i will try anyway. I am a developer using a
Windows Server 2008 R2 as a workstation as i do most of my development for servers and
i make my life easier by debugging locally rather than running remote debugging sessions.
Unfortunaly different stupid installers are checking the OS version but looks like most of
people have forgot that there are also servers that have different entry in OSVERSIONINFOEX
structure. At the end i finish with manually unpacking installation, studying the freaking wise
scripts etc. (a simple example are drivers for logitech webcams. The drivers works perfectly
on w2k8r2 but the installer refuses to install). I actually have made some code that hooks
GetVersionEx via IAT but it looks like this was not enough for some installations.
Is there a chance you could add this to sendboxie so the sandbox would fake the OS version
to the inside running programs? It would also be beneficial for users trying to install some old
game or new program on old windows.
Thank you.
Faking of operating system version
I'm sorry but I'm not interested in adding this very specific feature to Sandboxie as I don't think it has an audience large enough to just the feature.
However as a developer you might be able to use Sandboxie API to develop a DLL that will intercept GetVersion functions and return fake results.
