Issue raised by "SpyBot Search and Distroy" softwa

Post by scribbler » Thu Jan 07, 2010 5:51 pm

Hi,

I recently installed Sandboxie on my XP Pro SP3 PC and have been very happy with the evaluation so far..with Sandboxie being all I was told it was..and then some!

However, I just booted up my PC and was surprised to find that the "SpyBot Search and Distroy" security software program I have installed on my PC just popped up a warning message. Please see image linked below..

I just want to ask if this is anything to do with the Sandboxie program itself..or has the SpyBot S&D program correctly spotted and disabled something masquerading as a part of Sandboxie? This makes me wonder, as Sandboxie is still running now as I type this..and there has not been any other issues so far while running both Sandboxie and SpyBot S&D in the past..hence my concern now.

My thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.

Kind regards.

Have a read here; http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=39394
I would uninstall the sandboxie program through Add Remove Programs - Reboot - Run Spybot again and if it identifies anything, have it kill/remove it. Reboot. Download a new installer from here and reinstall Sandboxie, and then run Spybot again. (also if your ini file is complex you can save a copy of it on the desktop prior to the unistall). See where that puts you ...

Has there been any further information on this issue? I'm tempted to try out the new 64-bit version of Sandboxie, but if it's going to cause a ruckus with Spybot, I'd rather not.

The issue linked to by Mitch seems entirely unrelated to scribbler's post.

My apologies. Hadn't seen that little bit in the link, or on the original screenshot. I was a bit confused since the rundown on the removal guide didn't seems to incriminate the executable specifically, but you're right on the money.

I guess there's no way to tell if this is a legitimate issue or a false positive until scribbler reports back.

No problem. :D
If Scribbler does get back and can do these items, we will at least know if Sandboxie (the real one that is) is involved - and if Spybot flags it again I guess then it is a false positive.

Thanks for the help here, Guys..forgive me, but I am assuming you both are "guys"..if not..my apologies up front.

Anyway, as I said, thanks for the help and advice. I only just now managed to check back here and have yet to act on the steps outlined above, but I will post back once I have gone through every thing and have something to report..either way. One thing though that does bother me is that this never happened before..meaning I have had Sandboxie running now daily for just over a week along with Spybot and this is the first time anything has happened regarding Sandboxie.

Still, I have to read through the link posted above, so maybe this is touched on in the same.. By the way, MitchE323..forgive my ignorance, but which ini file are you referring to?

Later guys..or girls..whichever the case may be! :)

That would be the Sandboxie.ini file in the Windows folder. That is where all of the settings you make in Sandboxie Control are stored. If you have a very complex setup, saving the existing ini file as a reminder to your settings will help when you reinstall a fresh installation.

Just to update..

I followed the steps outlined in the link Mitch posted and the end result is all is now ok and there doesn't seem to be any more issues while running Sandboxie and Spybot on my PC.

Thanks guys for the help again..very much appreciated.
