Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Yep, no joy here with OMTC false.
I found this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/quest ... 328?page=1 so, I tried OMTC false plus iterations of HA + OMTC. No joy. Random Not Responding. Also random now is this message which used to present with every download. I've tried to correlate Not Responding events with message show/no show. No joy.

That's an interesting thread BJM thanks. Here I have HA enabled and OMTC enabled - all good

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
bjm, you getting that message because you are opening file explorer while running Firefox sandboxed. My guess is that you have Downloads in Firefox set to "Always ask me where to save files". Thats the reason you are opening file explorer and the message appears when you download something. Allowing dllhost access to the internet is not necessary.bjm wrote:Also random now is this message which used to present with every download.
If I was you, I would try a new Firefox profile and test running Firefox in a new sandbox with no Start Run restrictions, and see what happens.

.Allowing dllhost access to the internet is not necessary
I 100% agree
I absolutely agree. I'll wait for the results. If I was you, I would try a new Firefox profile and test running Firefox in a new sandbox with no Start Run restrictions, and see what happens.

Yes, HA enabled + OMTC enabled = random Not Responding ....JoeHood wrote:That's an interesting thread BJM thanks. Here I have HA enabled and OMTC enabled - all good

That's why I tried iterations for HA n'/or OMTC.
Thanks

Okay, new sandbox with no Start/Run restrictions. I only have three now ...firefox, plugin-container, dllhost
and I do not allow net access to dllhost.
Net access is firefox n' plugin-container. We discussed plugin-container. Seems with x64, I need net access for plugin-container. FlashPlayer at Never Activate.
I'll try new sandbox with no Start/Run restrictions. Thanks Bo + Thanks Craig@

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
new TestFirefox sandbox - no settings carryover - just default sandbox.
No Net Access restrictions, No Start/Run restrictions, No Drop Rights, No Direct Access, One global Full Access (hmpalert), Firefox just default Phishing.
Seven test downloads over an hour. Number 7 tripped Not Responding. One thru six dl's at start of hour were rapid to stress Norton. End of hour, number 7 = Not Responding. Norton scanned and reported for all seven and all dl's were intact upon Terminate All. I was normal browsing during the hour.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
bjm, perhaps your non response problem when downloading has to do with Norton or HMPA. I cant recall ever having an issue of any kind recovering files of any size or whatever they were. Maybe your AV kind of takes it time to scan a download sometimes and that freezes the browser.
Try setting up direct access to your download folder to test and see if ALL downloads go straight thru to the downloads folder or if the freeze still continues to happen sometimes. I would also test if possible, setting Norton in a way in which downloads are excluded from being scanned as files get created in the PC.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Bo, well that's where random factors in. I've stress tested Norton in my everyday Firefox sandbox with random results.
For example 8 quick back-to-back dl's. Norton lagged reporting but, caught up wo Not Responding. And in contrast one dl brings Not Responding. Now, I've stress tested Norton in TestFirefox sandbox with 6 quick back-to-back dl's. Norton lagged reporting but, caught up wo Not Responding. Then number 7 was unlucky. I've also tested with Norton and/or HMP.Alert disabled in my everyday Firefox sandbox. I know that's not the same as removed .
Okay, I'll test Direct Access for Downloads. And I'll play with my friends Norton and HMP.A.
Although, am I the only user reporting.....hangs on downloads....? Have all other users sorted thread title.
If we could only get every user to run as Sandboxie purest.
As I recall. My Not Responding started with FFx64. So, maybe I'll test with new profile or go back to 32bit.
Cheers
Thanks!

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Et al,
briefly back to my other perhaps related "random".
Setup Direct Access to Desktop as my downloads are set to Desktop.
First test download in everyday Firefox sandbox. I get Not Responding and message... which I'm told I shouldn't since, I have downloads set to Desktop vs Ask.
File arrives at Desktop intact. Norton reports.
Then after Terminate All. I quick pull same file in my everyday Firefox sandbox five times.
Five files arrive at Desktop wo above message while Norton catches up reports and no Not Responding.
Head scratch.....

Direct Access for downloads...seems, No joy. Terminate All....file arrives intact with Norton scan.
Same download minute later not sandbox'd.
File arrives intact with Norton scan and no Not Responding.
Cheers
Has to be Norton.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
That would be a bad idea, bjm. For someone like me, who doesn't share the computers with anyone but my wife and doesn't install any new programs in the PC, using Sandboxie on its own, works great, and its the perfect way of using it. But not everyone uses the computer like that. My computers are static, they dont change at all, and all programs that I test are either using Sandboxie or Shadow defender.bjm wrote: If we could only get every user to run as Sandboxie purest.
What would be great I think would be getting every Sandboxie user to run programs that are compatible with Sandboxie, doing that alone, I believe, would make most problems go away. Issues like lags, sandboxes taking a long time to delete or programs taking a while to pop up open, freezes, none of that happens if you run programs that are compatible with SBIE.
One reason I feel safer using Sandboxie on its own is that by doing so I avoid potential problems like, if I go to a site using a non restricted Start Run sandbox, and all of the sudden, the site starts downloading malkware and I start experiencing freezes like the one you describe, probably nothing would happen as all should stay in the sandbox. But who knows, maybe the conflict if there's one, between Norton and SBIE, helps the malware somehow escape the sandbox. I rather avoid that kind of possibility and that's what I am doing when I use nothing along SBIE that can water down Sandboxies protection.
