Thats weird, afaik you've always been able to install msn just fine, just couldnt launch it, now its the opposite, you cant install it now (even though you could before)?

Well just tried this, and i cant reproduce the problem, it installed and ran perfectly fine sandboxed. Maybe someone else might be able to reproduce this?

maybe it's a server 2003 conflict

[edit]

ehh oops... guess i was too fast again... i downloaded v8.5 beta...

the 8.0 version works fine!

but still the problem remains... WLM/MSN v8.5 beta doesn't install.

street011, is it really that difficult for you to respect my simple wish to refrain from using curse words here? It's a simple request, I've made it on multiple occasions, a number of times to you directly, but you keep ignoring it. May I ask why?

Cute. But you know what I mean and I hope I had to ask you for the last time. I'm trying to keep a professional (or at least semi-professional) tone in this forum, please respect that.

with 8.1 or 8.0 it does install, but when installed sandboxed it crashes the service after a while (say 20 mins)

i get flooded with:

Code: Select all

SBIE2203 failed to communicate with Sandboxie service: null reply

after the first error all running sandboxed programms become inoperable, no files can be saved, when you try to save a file it says it already exists, when overwrite a 0-byte file is written...
anyway... something to look into seriously i think...

Hmm your right street, i downloaded the WLM beta (before i had tried the 8.0 and it worked fine) and when i sandboxed the installer, i hit agree, then wlm says it is preparing your computer, and then after seeing that window for about 5 seconds, it just goes away and the installer terminates. Is that the problem you see? Btw, i tested this with .17 on Vista, im about to upgrade to 3.01, ill tell you if i get the same problem.

I made some progress with this problem, but not all the way.

I fixed the problem reported here, about the Windows Live Messenger installer giving up almost immediately. It still doesn't install all the way in most cases.

And even when it does install all the way, the Windows Live Messenger process seems to hang as soon as it starts sandboxed, no tray icon ever appears.

I'll be looking into these problems again, but it's going to take some more time, and I wanted to release version 3.01.18 today.

i just updated, tried to install WML 8.5, installer gave an error after initializing something with "WMLinstaller"

then it continued, finished fine.

it spawned msnmsgr.exe, nothing was visible until after about 3 minutes. it just poped up on screen and i could use WML 8.5

it works, but something is still smelly that doesn't work right all the way :)
