MS Word and Sandboxie

Post by Bellzemos » Thu Feb 05, 2015 4:47 pm

Hi,

today I noticed, if I right-click a DOC file and click on Run Sandboxed it only opens the Word itself but not the file (an it's contents). I have to manually click on File, Open... and then open desired the file.

Also, when clicking on a DOC file in a sandboxed Windows Explorer the opening of the file takes a much longer time VS unsandboxed. I'm using paid Sandboxie 4.14 on Windows 7 x64.

My friend has the same problem with sluggishness with Word files using a free version of Sandboxie on Windows 8.1 x64. He says that the files sometiems won't even open when sandboxed.

Anyone else experiencing a priblem like this? Any solutions or ideas?

Thanx!

Hi Bellzemos. I think we talk about this before. In my XP, I use MS Office. And don't use MS Office in W7. In my experience running Office in XP under version 4, I found disabling Drop rights makes Word run smooth. If I run Word files in a sandbox with Drop rights, I experience what you describe in the quote. So, I workaround the issue by not ticking Drop rights in sandboxes where I run Word files. I dont experience issues forcing Word or any other Office program. Or have to untick Drop rights for any other MS Office program but Word. For me, not enabling Drop rights in a couple of sandboxes is nothing. :)

Hi Bo! Yes, I remember, just now I tried and disabled the Drop Rights feature but it happens all the same. If I right click on a Word file and then clikc on Run Sandboxed it won't open (only Word "frame" opens, but no file contents).

Interesting. I don't know why disabling D.R. doesn't work here. I tried in 2 different sandboxes and it's all the same. I have Word 2007.

I hope that Invincea will look into the problem as MS Word (and MS Office) are widely used programs.

Hi guys, same problem here with Windows 8.1 x64 and Office 2013 x64.

If I run Word 2013 and then open a file .DOC from the menu i get a popup saying "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggesiones. Blah Blah Blah..."

That's no good... I consider it a major issue to be resolved ASAP.

Thanks

Run Word & Excel outside the sandbox, then try it inside.

Office 2010 x86 on Win 7 x64 SP1 also had issues with latest Sandboxie versions. Sandboxed Word was crashing after few minutes if the same document was open outside and inside of sandbox. Also if sandbox autodelete was enabled there was some other bug with sandbox commonication. CMD was starting by itself, crashing, sandboxie auto-delete has been activated, failed to delete sandobx content (sandbox name has been renamed to DeleteBox<some numbers>) and then cmd started again, again, again. It was pretty fast, caused high cpu and disk usage + failed to delete sandbox content windows were popping out. Disabling the service was the only way to stop this.

I tried that just now and it doesn't help. Still the same problem.

The only way we are able to repeat these problems is if Office has not been activated or hasn't completed its initial setup.

My Office is activated, for a long time now (it's MS Office 2007).

I just bought Sandboxie yesterday and found I had the same problem with Word opening, but not the file clicked on. I solved it on my computer by going to Sandbox Settings>Program Start>Forced Programs and then clicking Add Program, and adding winword.exe.
