Many ThinStalled Application not working in Sandboxie

Post by RMDesai » Tue Jul 03, 2007 7:02 am

Hello,

I dont't know if this is a problem with Sandboxie or with the application software itself. Using Thinstall, you can create independant single file .exe that you just run. No registry entries or related clutter on the PC.
But somehow most .exe files created this way do not run 'sandboxed.' Whlie it runs fine 'unsandboxed.' What could be the problem?

Regards,

Ravindra.

Just having a quick look at "Thinstall".Could a security app be Thinstalled and still work ok???
Thinstall enables ISVs and software companies to package their applications into a single selfcontained EXE that ensures the application runs conflict-free, and without requiring installation.

Eliminate all installation conflicts. Thinstall, all registry keys, DLLs, code frameworks such as .NET or Java, and third party libraries are packaged into a single, compressed EXE. Other applications, Windows upgrades, registry key deletions, or OS corruptions will not effect an Thinstall packaged application.

Sandboxie & Thinstalled Apps

Post by RMDesai » Wed Jul 04, 2007 4:40 am

Hello,

I raised this topic because personally I feel that such self contained apps can only increase in popularity.

TZuk: You may need to request a 15-day trial license of the program to study it.

Oneder: Nice thought. I will try and let the forum know if it is possible. I will try to create a SandboxieThinstall.exe and let you know how it goes.

TZuk: Please let me know if you do not want me to play with your app.

Regards,

Ravindra.

Post by Unknown_User_775 » Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:25 am

TZuk,

Say for example Power DVD
Which you may get from

http://www.appzpoint.net/index.php?show ... =thinstall

or alternatively from

http://rapidshare.com/files/34831490/pD7edem.rar

CODE: PwDv70

It doesn't work under SandboxIE.

Swami

62 MB !? Couldn't you find anything larger? :P
I am downloading, but if you can find anything smaller and more manageable, I'd like that.

OK, I got an error that some directory name is invalid, but then the app started and seems to respond. What's the problem?

Tried FF portable in a xp vm.

Uninstalled ff first and hit the run default browser under sandboxie and the uninstalled ff started.Or so it seems looking at my tabs which are different in both versions.

Went back and emptied the sb and manually deleted all left over files from the installed ff.

Right clicked the portable ff icon and ran sandboxed from within the pff folder and seemed run sanboxed fine but on deleting the sandbox there were many recoverable files relating to the portable ff.

After setting the pff as default and hitting the run default browser pff still came up but like a fresh install, no tabs and ff welcome page.

Quite liking this portable ff as I can just copy and paste the pff folder anywhere and all my addons and tabs are still around.

Sandboxie is better though!

Alright, here is the smallest one I could locate 8)
Its google talk
http://rapidshare.com/files/29828412/googletalk.exe

I'm still with Sandboxie V2.8, where I'm getting an error message with OK Button. After clicking OK, nothing happends. Thinstalled application refusing to run.

In the week ends, I will try out this beta & update you.

The Googletalk also works for me. I guess you really should upgrade.

Tzuk,

It started working for me too.. after upgrading it to the latest beta :D
But the same error poped up for the power DVD.
After clicking Ok, it started working fine.

Google talk - no problem. Running fine.

Thank you very much !

Swami.
