Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)

Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
The way I did mine was to go to Options > Advanced Settings > Exceptions > Add Exception.
Exception Type - chose "Folder"
Choose File etc - Browse to Sandboxie folder (default location C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\ )
Use this exception for - (check all three) .... you probably only actually need to check "Resident Shield", possibly "Identity Protection", probably not "Manual & Scheduled Scan". I checked all to be safe but I may revisit and uncheck the latter one or two.

I forgot to say that I get the message "Sandboxie RpcSs Could not instrument service functions" before the error message "SBIE 2303 Could not hook Power Settings Register Notification" shows. I do not know whether this helps anyone to diagnose the problem.

And you're using v5.04? Correct?

What about any other browser besides IE? I"m curious if you run into problems with Firefox, Chrome..etc.

There is this rare race issue that can still show up. It was first seen in Win10..but, it can also show up in 8/8.1 as that condition can occur there. See Curt's mention below.Mings wrote:Yes, that is correct.

This is most likely something preventing Sbie from injecting code.Mings wrote:I forgot to say that I get the message "Sandboxie RpcSs Could not instrument service functions" before the error message "SBIE 2303 Could not hook Power Settings Register Notification" shows. Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
Be warned, this might be a complete red-herring but ....
I wonder if the variability with this problem, particularly with Win 8.1 (it seems more consistent on Win 10 from what I'm reading here) is due to differing inclusions of some Windows Updates.
There is currently a lot of bad press about some of the privacy intrusions contained in Win-10. Apparently MS is also foisting some of this on Windows 8.1 users via some Windows Update components. Because of this and discussions elsewhere, I looked for and removed certain Windows 8.1 Updates that appear to be privacy related. I can't say whether or not this has affected this issue for me. In addition there is an update (KB2919355) that, in effect, amounts to a Service Pack although MS doesn't call them that any more. This addresses many. many Windows 8.1 issues including some that occur only to some users. Possibly it would relate to this problem (or at least determine why some people see it and others don't). I do have that KB installed on my (Sandboxie now working) system. Anyone using automatic updates should have this already.
FWIW, the KB's I removed over privacy concerns are:
KB3068708
KB3022345
KB3075249
KB3080149

Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
KB3081455 and Win 8.1 KB3087039 (Identical updates, one for 10 and other for 8.1) was addressed in a previous release of SBIE (5.03.1) those updates broke a few things, but not directly related to this error code. This error predates that, and was addressed to varying success in SBIE 5.01.12
Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
Although I was slightly nervous about uninstalling a Windows update, I took the advice of dnaman in his post of yesterday and uninstalled KB3075249. I could not see the other 3 he mentioned. However, this did not resolve the issue so I re-installed it. Any other ideas, please? I did not have this problem before mid-September this year.

Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
I'm certain it wasn't a windows update. As we corrected that when we were notified about it. (and It didn't trigger the errors you got.)
Unless something is injecting (like Curt mentioned) such as an addon/or Antivirus or it's that rare race condition (there is no permanent fix for that, as that is machine dependent, and not as much software, as it has to do with core parallel processing and timing.) I'm not sure what else it could be..

Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
This is the exact error caused by AVG. If excluding Sbie has not worked, then try completely uninstalling AVG.Curt@invincea wrote:This is most likely something preventing Sbie from injecting code.Mings wrote:I forgot to say that I get the message "Sandboxie RpcSs Could not instrument service functions" before the error message "SBIE 2303 Could not hook Power Settings Register Notification" shows. Re: Can't start Sandboxie (SBIE2204)
I think I have solved the problem by installing Google Chrome, and using this sandboxed instead of Internet Explorer.
