Can you install programs on sandboxie?

Post by pekka123 » Fri Oct 14, 2016 5:11 pm

hello everyone,
When I want to download a program on sandboxie the installation would complete but right after the installation the program would close. Is it possible to install and run programs on sandboxie?

Yes, after you install a program in the sandbox and you exit the program, the program remains installed in the sandbox (until you delete contents of the sandbox).

How do we run programs that are installed in a sandbox?

There are a few ways. One easy way would be to right click the Sandboxie icon by the clock, hover the browser over the name of the sandbox where you installed the program, Click Run from Start menu, find the shortcut for the program you installed sandboxed in one of the menus (Like ln Desktop or Programs) and click it. That would run the program you installed sandboxed.

You can also create a sandboxed shortcut for the program. Go to Sandboxie control>Configure>Windows shell integration, Click Add shortcut icons, Select the sandbox in which you installed the program, find the shortcut for the program you installed sandboxed in one of the menus (Like ln Desktop or Programs) and click it. After the click youll find a sandboxed shortcut for the program in the Desktop.

A caveat: If the program requires installation of a driver, then you're out of luck. Otherwise, I have installed and tested many programs in sandboxes (I create "testboxes"). I think you'll find that you will have the most success installing and running portable apps in Sandboxie ( http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php ), but a good many non-portable apps work well too.

Those testboxed programs that I end up liking, I simply keep in their respective sandboxes and run them when I need them. If I ever tire of one of them, I simply flush the testbox and it's as if it never existed on my system. It's a great way of keeping your rig clean.
