an issue with Steam and it's updates

Post by psybb » Sun Oct 16, 2016 10:08 am

My steam client is up to date, but when i open it with sandboxie, steam is updating for 4-5minutes and then launching. Even after update it wants to update more (screenshot) it wants to download updates from 2015. (yes, i tried to update it again, it does not helps) he wants to update again and again the same patches)

on screen you see steam withoun sandboxie (left side) with no available updates and sandbox steam with more than 10 updates.
Ofcourse i tried to delete/create new sandbox. i've tried to reinstall sandboxie, even install previous versions (5.10, 5.12) it does not helps(
Maybe there is solution?

windows 10 pro, sandboxie 5.14
Please, help meee=)

I think I've encountered something like this a couple times in the past. When it happened to me I booted to my gaming OS and updated it outside of SBIE.
I never investigated why this seemed to help as my Steam box has direct access to it's own install folder and the changes were actually made. Most of the time it works with minor updates while in a box for me though.

If you've already updated it outside of Sandboxie then you may need to clear/delete the box (and its contents) as it's possible there is some registry key or temporary file from the update process inside which makes Steam think it wasn't completed? If you have a persistent box for saves then you would lose them if the game doesn't support cloud saves though so you'd want to track them down in the box and make a backup you can restore later. (or zip the whole steam box directory just in case first)

every time i launch steam, it downloads the updates (every time) so after few days the size of content in the box was 2 and a half gigabytes. As soon as i seen this, i've set the settings to automatically delete the content.
I created new box - no result (also i deleted previous boxes)
I deleted the program and it's saves - nope
I reinstalled steam - same thing
steam just think he's from 2015...
I checked the versions of both steams - they are same.

I really don't know how to check the registry.
all i know is - windows is installed for few month's, steam i've installed yesterday.... it just can't be something wrong in the registry for steam to think that he have no updates since 2015

@psybb

I was able to test this on Windows 7 with Steam and it works. I ran it with "Run As UAC Administrator" selected and it worked without any issues.

Have you had a chance to test this? Also, have you tried uninstalling steam, leaving the games installed then install steam once more and see if you encounter any issues?

My sandbox is set to default so it may be worth creating new sandbox with default settings and test with that.

Let us know if you encounter any issues.

First of all I want to thank you guys for trying to figure out what's wrong))

In previous.post I mentioned that I already tried to delete steam. It does not helped.
My native language is not English and I'm sorry if my posts is hard to read.
I'l try to explain.

I've tried:
Reinstall sandboxie
Install previous versions ( 5.12, 5.10)
Delete the content of box, delete box
Reinstall.steam (7 days of trade ban by the way =)
I've installed windows 7.
No result.

Only when I turned on "auto delete" in the settings of the box - the time of steam's launch is shorted to 2 minutes.
But this isn't fixed the problem.
Some of my friends have same problem, I'm not alone))

And yeah, I tried to launch steam as UAC - same problem.
I do it every launch because in the other way the VAC protection is blocks me when I want to search a game in dota

@psybb

Have you had a chance to test by creating default sandbox?
