upgrading from 2.42 to 3.0 : any special precautions ?

Post by Ninho » Sun Aug 19, 2007 11:49 am

Hi, Ronen! Hi, Sandboxie users (old & new)!

I haven't touched Sandboxie for many months (for personal reasons), now returning : when I quit, it was at version 2.42, seing it's now 3.0 ! Wow! I guess it is greater than ever! Congratulations !

Just a question/shade of a doubt before I update : since there've been so many changes, may I still just install the new SB and it'll take care of the update, or should I first remove SB 2.42 as a stand alone operation ?

Cheers,

Yes, this is something I also wondered about, I think it´s probably best if you uninstall the old version because there are quite a lot of changes ("under the hood") in v3, but I´m not sure.

Welcome back to the forums! Anyways, if you are updating from a really old sandboxie, then yes, i'd uninstall sandboxie first, then install the newest version, but once you've got sandboxie 3.0 installed, then you can install newer versions without having to uninstall the old version, and without restarting.
Windows 7 SP1 x64, Sandboxie v3.70 x64 with Experimental Protection, GnuPG, OTR (Off-The-Record), Sticky Password, My Brain.

http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?DownloadSandboxie:

If you have an earlier version of Sandboxie already installed, you can let the installer upgrade or overwrite your existing installation.

It's in a bold font, I was hoping it would be clearly visible to the casual observer. :?

Seen that, yet I preferred to wait for a confirmation. Now going to install over the old version - which is a relief, because I found that the link I had to "uninstall" sandboxie... points nowhere anyway !

Thanks
