Chrome Update Breaks Sandboxie

Post by SailDriver » Thu May 21, 2015 11:27 am

Facts: Google Chrome Version 43.0.2357.65 m; Sandboxie Version 4.15; Windows 7-64 bit Professional Version with all up to-date patches.

Yesterday updated Chrome to version shown above and Sandboxie now gives error SIE2205, in that Chrome will not resolve any web pages at all.

The beta does indeed allow Sandboxie to work with the latest Chrome update. Thanks.

This is a more general type of question (sorry for hijacking the thread): what would prevent possible break-ups between Chrome and Sandboxie in the future? Disabling Chrome's sandbox? Or disabling Chrome's update feature only?

Hi Bellzemos. I am not a Chrome user but in my opinion, that sounds like a great idea (with Sandboxie).

I am having the same issue and will install the Beta Sandboxie version after this post.

I wouldn't disable Chrome updates. You run the risk of falling behind in their security protocols. As a fail safe have an alternate browser, like Firefox or Opera, that you would use temporarily until the problem gets fixed.

If you can wait a day or two, I expect new final version of Sandboxie 4.18 to be released very soon.

I think Bellzemos was talking about the feature in Chrome that checks for updates automatically. Since to update the browser for good you will have to update it outside the sandbox and many of the errors that Chrome users get are due to Chrome checking for updates, it is a good idea to disable the feature in Chrome when you are a SBIE user.

After disabling automatic updates how would the user know when to update to a newer version? Wouldn't it be best to let it update, come here for the beta version of Sandboxie?

Hi ritzter. You can find out when Chrome has a new update available by following a thread that is about that at another forum, like the one below, or even here. If you come here every few days and read threads, you ll know when Chrome has a new version out.

I use Firefox and disable checking for updates. I do the same with all software that I run sandboxed. And that is just about every program that runs in my computer. It works fine doing things like that. :)

Yes Bo, I think that's a good way to do it. It's not so easy to disable Chrome's auto-update though, pretty difficoult really (I know the documented procedure but after it Chrome keept updating itself anyway). That's why I always prefer Firefox over Chrome but some of the Sandboxie users I know prefer Chrome and I don't like them calling me every time a Chrome update breaks Sandboxie. Thanx. :)

Can't wait to get the update that supports the newest version of Google Chrome.

Many thanks for that, Sandboxie is a really great application!
