Firefox doesn't access places.sqlite

Post by davegdmn » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:33 pm

New kid on the block here, concerned with Sandboxie 3.4 (registered) & Firefox 3.5.5. Sandboxie is set to force Firefox into the sandbox.

If Sandbox Settings->Applications->Web Browser->Firefox is set to allow direct access to FF bookmark/history database, then on invocation Firefox comes up with the red banner saying that "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional..." because the files are already in use.

This is a fresh installation of XP/SP3, there is as yet no security software installed and the task manager shows nothing pertinent running. Unchecking the direct access box solves the immediate problem, but of course no history or bookmarks are saved.

I've been thru (and thru!) Mozilla's suggestions under 'The bookmarks and history system will not be functional' to no avail. I suppose I'm overlooking something simple and obvious... Any enlightenment greatly appreciated.

In my experience, this happens when you have 2 instances of Firefox running, and they are both trying to access the same profile files.
The first instance to use those files will keep the second instance from using them.
So, were you running 2 instances of Firefox?

Thanks for your reply, Guest10. No, no other instances of Firefox running. Task Manager shows no applications running, and no (identifiable) Firefox processes. Curious... :-)

Curious, yes.

Are you running as Administrator, and have you set up any Sandbox restrictions?
Have you looked here?
