Running program inside and outside sandbox at same time?
I see that when I start up Firefox inside the sandbox and then launch another Firefox window outside the sandbox, the Task Manager shows 2 firefox.exe processes. I wonder if this could cause any problems, especially considering that I have configured the sandbox to allow Firefox direct access to the bookmark and database history, cookies, and phishing database. Could one Firefox process clobber the changes that the other Firefox process makes?
I use separate Firefox profiles to avoid problems with 2 instances trying to use the same profile files.
When I did do that, a long time ago, the bookmarks could not be accessed in one of the instances.
My Desktop shortcut for sandboxed Firefox specifies which sandbox to use, and the profile name, on the command line.
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:NonSecureBox "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "NonSecure"

No, I don't run sandboxed Firefox that way.slbox wrote:If you have created another profile for sandboxed Firefox instances, how do you tell Sandboxie to use that? I mean when you click on Sandbox > DefaultBox > Run sandboxed > Run Web Browser.
I use a Desktop shortcut as listed above:
Right-clicking my shortcut > Properties > Target line:
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:NonSecureBox "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "NonSecure"
I called the new Firefox profile "NonSecure". (I also have a "Secure" profile)
I created a "NonSecureBox" sandbox and used Sandbox Settings > Applications > Web Browser > Firefox
to choose my sandboxed Firefox options. (I also have a "SecureBox" sandbox to use with the "Secure" profile)
Breaking into parts the Properties > Target line for the shortcut that runs Firefox sandboxed:
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" (run Sandboxie's start.exe program)
/box:NonSecureBox (use the NonSecureBox sandbox)
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" (run the firefox.exe program)
-P (Use the Firefox profile that follows this command line switch)
"NonSecure" (the name of the Firefox profile to use. Must be enclosed in quotes "")
If I start Firefox from the Start Menu (unsandboxed), the "default" profile is used.
If I use Sandbox > DefaultBox > Run sandboxed > Run Web Browser, the "default" profile will be used when sandboxed.
